Secret of Evermore wont load next area
Hello i installed Zsnes on my Ubuntu machine (Thinkpad R61i)
to play Secret of Evermore.
And from time to time the game gets stucked.
Mostly this happens to me in the area between the jungle and the sand fields.
normaly the screen turns black for some seconds and then the new area appears.
but in my case the screen stays black.
there are no error messages
My ROM says
Interleaved: no
Video: PAL
Bank: HI
Type: Normal
Checksum: OK

Does the same thing happen with the NTSC version?
Re: Secret of Evermore wont load next area
I now play the English NTSC version. and there are no problems like have in the german version.

Re: Secret of Evermore wont load next area
Probably a bug in the emulator.
PAL software's always been second-class citizens in video game emulation, and I'd bet the timing is just emulated SO wrong that the software finally chokes.

Plus, the PAL version runs slower than NTSC. Which is probably why the timing hasn't been properly emulated.
I know, weak excuse, but PAL just sucks.

Gotta love that automatic 20% slowdown.

Well, my understanding is no one's actually sure WHAT the timing is on the PAL SNES. There's educated guesses, but no one's actually measured anything.Agozer wrote:Plus, the PAL version runs slower than NTSC. Which is probably why the timing hasn't been properly emulated.

My understanding is he's never had access to a PAL unit to do tests with, and no one else has done the tests he needs done.byuu wrote:So for PAL, your guess is as good as mine. We don't even know where the PAL clock rate value I use comes from, let alone know whether it's right or not.

Nah, the pal clock is known (stupid 21281370Hz clock with an incredibly shitty 64489 prime factor). However, maybe some other weird hardware quirks matter, and those aren't known ?
