Request: Zsnes with sound synching

Post by gaijinx1 »

I noticed that numerous emulators have sound synching in their options,
or already enabled. This makes the sound much more accurate (notably
Chrono Trigger and various Final Fantasy games). Why doesn't Zsnes have sound synch options?! That would make it sound alot (not kidding)
more accurate. Any feedback is appreciated.

IIRC, ZSNES does this automatically, so no such option is required. The two games you mentioned probably sound off to you due to what is known as Square hardware rape.

It's simply not useful for ZSNES and Snes9x. The sound timing _is_ imperfect, but there's no magical option you can flip to make it better - only research into the SNES and hard work will fix it.

Right... The point in an emulator is to try to make its as close as the real thing, using cracks and hacks just so it looks as good (or in this case, hears) is something that the developers are trying to avoid.

What I meant to say is, why do other Snes emulators, like SnesGT, are better than Zsnes in terms of sound?? I'm an audio-phile, so I like sound
accuracy in emulators.

Probably because they use hacks or work-arounds. I guess :?

Or have better timing/sound engine.

And zsnes doesn't emulate that "hardware rape" because of it's imperfect timing. That's the real issue (ok, I'm sure you knew that. Just making it clear for people that are not familiar with the problem)

Snkcube: From what I read: SnesGT use hacks. SnesSE has better timing and doesn't rely on hacks.

The big question is why gaijinx1 created a second topic on exactly the same topic that was answered two months ago:

Clements never forgets.
