actually biting the bullet and sending it in for repair. i don't have a heatgun nor the time to tear it down to reflow the board and hope that bad solder is actually the problem, but if i get a new one i give up the ps2 compatibility that i regularly use.
plus, repair is MUCH cheaper than a new or refurb.
5 years isn't bad, but all of my other consoles are still alive and kicking (except the original PS1 that one of my college dorm-mates cooked alive by running it on a carpet for 6 hours).
