Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
I've tried every sound driver, sampling/input rate and basically every adjustment possible and the thing that I found helps the most with 9x sound crackling is turning off the high-res support since most games don't use it anyway. In Seiken Densetsu 3, the HRES mode actually switches off for a second when a text box comes up and it cracks a lot(no matter the driver or input rate), so I just stick it on HQ4x filtered and there's almost no cracking. Windows 8 refuses to run ZSNES full screen, so 9x is my best bet for now. Once I replace my shitty graphics card, that may help with the sound bugs as well. ZSNES is just so much simpler to set up and less buggy overall, but yeah it does need a nice fresh update to make it the definitive SNES emulator.
If I set the graphics in 9x to openGL, it improves sound but there is a shit ton of screen tearing(even with Vsync & triple buffering enabled) so I have to stick with D3D for now. With the high res support disabled, there's almost zero sound crackling unless I play a ridiculously bass heavy game, but I've gotten used to it and with games like SF2 turbo, I just use MAME. The RPGs I love to emulate work really well so far. My point is while a great emulator, 9x is a pain to work with compared to ZSNES.
Does ZSNES emulate the higher res of some of the later SNES games?

Horizontal and vertical, yeah. Also, not really 'later'. SoM was pretty early in the snes lifetime.Yuber wrote:Does ZSNES emulate the higher res of some of the later SNES games?
Regarding filters and hires, buffer reuse limits a lot of combinations right now.

Non-existant. It's closed off to the public due to many bugs.joe_devore wrote:What is the url for the ZSNES svn repository these days?

I am glad Zsnes is still alive, I haven't checked their progress...well since 2008, and the emu is superior in a few areas over snes9x or other SNES emus out there (e.g. you can actually overclock the snes cpu to 150%, this is by FAR the best feature I can wish on a SNES emu, nearly all games have no slowdowns when you set this, the only downside is that some games have random freezes)

Speaking of Chi no Rondo, oh boy, that game blow my mind when I first played it back in the nineties. It was hard as hell to buy an imported Super CD game from overseas but I managed to get myself a copy and when I first put the CD on the console and hear true CD audio quality in a game for the first time I got really hyped. Played the game until I beat it and achieved 100%, never regret having to go all the trouble on buying this japan's only gem. Later I bought a copy of the Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP, and to be honest is a really good game, I like the remake ( and the toned down difficulty, nah, just kidding ), specially the dubbed english version of the original, since I didnt understood anything when I played Chi no Rondo, not that the Castlevania series had the greatest story, but I wanted at least to know what was going on in the game, since they actually included anime cutscenes.
You can set the cpu cycles in the cfg file to 80-85 (default is 100), since most games runs at that speed. The case in Star Fox is a little different, Zsnes doubles the speed of the emulated FX chip, thus why it appears to run more smoothly ( not a bad thing IMHO )ZSNES runs a little faster than a real SNES
Maybe you are interested in this modification for SOTN:Easy to find and makes an already fantastic game that much greater

StarFox doesn't run more smoothly. It runs more fastly. There IS a difference.Marcelo_20XX wrote:IYou can set the cpu cycles in the cfg file to 80-85 (default is 100), since most games runs at that speed. Gameplay is about twice as fast as it's supposed to be.

So, you are going to say to one of the developers, who posted a reply immediately after your first post, that it isn't in development.malleta wrote:When this topic was created, I think it was still in development..nintendo_nerd wrote:He probably thought it was a tl;dr thinggrinvader wrote:I'll let you read the thread title a couple more times and let it simmer.malleta wrote:Is ZSNES dead?

Right.
Exactly. It was a tl;dr thread title for him, and "not dead" means "dead" apparently /sarcasm. If Zsnes' lack of public activity bothers this guy so much, he should use another emulator.

Just give up. We all know it will never be updated anyway. SNES emulation is dead in the water and you know it.

at first, i was incredibly excited by that, and then i noticed the sizes and realized that's likely a single file. alas.grinvader wrote:Code: Select all

Mainly a proof of concept, and not even there yet. No time, no brain, no fun.

Depends on what your definition of "development" isapollo_christ wrote:so.. is ZSNES still in development?

Short answer: Hard to say for sure. I've moved on Snes9x 1.53 since I got sick of waiting lol

Here's an interesting read on Zsnes, make what you will of it

It's not like we contracted the coding work to aliens or whatever. Maybe we should have, they probably would've been done by now.

There are coding aliens now? Dang, we should have them code a PS3 emulator while we're at it. The only drug I've been on is Snes9x/RetroArch.
