What is KitchenSync and Seta 10??

Post by gaijinx1 »

Couple of feature questions, what the crap is the Seta 10 stuff?
And what is the KitchenSync, I cannot enable this feature. Any feedback
is appreciated.
Sony's PSP may have superior hardware, but like many other systems, it doesn't focus on quality in their games. The Nintendo DS will prevail in the gaming department!

That doesn't help.

Search does do wonders, and that quote there from AntoineWG is 100% wrong.

Kitchensync was the obligatory "Crash my PC" option.

or maybe it doubles the screen refresh rate too...

Maybe Nach is being ornery because he fixed it so that Kitchensync won't appear if it'll crash your PC.

SETA 10 is one of those special chips, as I've understood it.

KitchenSync put the refresh rate for NTSC to 120Hz and for PAL 100Hz, but I think the whole thing was more prone to crashing and only few cards and monitors supported it.

The Seta ST-0010 is a special chip used in F1 Race of Champions 2 / Exhaust Heat II. There are also two other Seta chips, the ST-0011 and the ST-0018.

Why is that, anyway? Was there something special about it? Don't most monitors these days support insane refresh rates like 200 hz? (not to mention video cards)

Very few monitors I've seen support over 85 Hz.

Well it all depends on what resolution you're running in. Almost every halfway modern moniter I've seen will run 100Hz at 640x480 or 800x600.

I don't see the point in even using a refresh rate higher than 85Hz. But 120Hz!? 200Hz!? That's overkill!!

Perhaps, but it's over 60Hz, and it's a multiple of 60Hz.

Well, the point was that 60Hz on some monitors is painfully flickery, plus pal games (50 frames/sec) on 60 frames/sec refresh doesn't look smooth, either.

So, no it's not overkill. 1280x1024 32bpp at 120Hz would fit the definition of extreme overkill.

My ViewSonic E70f supports 120hz @ 640x480, but KitchenSync doesn't work for me.

It's strange. Refresh rates higher than 85 hz aren't shown in the list of resolutions my little 15' monitor can handle, but if I make it show all refresh rates my video card can output, I can get up to 120 hz in 640x480, and 100 hz in 800x600 (1024x760 defaults to 85hz again, as does 1280x1024 to 60 hz).

The settings menu on the monitor itself (you know, when you use the controls on the monitor) however, shows the resolution as "user defined" when above 85hz, where it usually shows the exact numbers. I know that it is actually at the higher-than-85 refresh rate because it DOES list that.

But there doesn't seem to be any visual difference between 640x480 @ 85 hz and 640x480 @ 120 hz.

Kitchensync doesn't work for me either.

(btw, virtually all the monitors I've been looking at in online stores support at least 100 hz. Maybe it's because I've been looking at 19' and up?)

I've seen a couple monitors in my old electric class go over 100Hz in win98....
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

There, now you've seen one. Vertical Refresh: 50-160 Hz

That's not that uncommon on most 19" monitors.
