Shin Megami Tensei text proublem

Post by True_Albel »

For some odd reason this only happens in the new Zsnes.

When I started playing it, the text that tells you your name, stats, and everything else is cut in half. Here is a picture of it...

Hmm, how odd. Would you mind using NSRT.

This is a bad rom. Find a good one.

A good hint is never to hardpatch your roms. Keep them clean, use the autopatch features of the emulators.

edit: besides, NSRT scanned the unpatched rom -> (J).
And 1- it's not in the database, 2- bad checksum => Bad rom.

The fact it runs doesn't mean that it's good.

Did I not say that I confirmed the bug? It occurs on nonpatched good 1.0 and 1.1 roms (SF Bug #1102018). The translation isn't causeing this.

I never said the contrary. I just pointed out that bug or not, his ROM was bad.

That is the patch version... But I did not know the emulater had a patch! I used a patch program. How do you patch with Zsnes?

NOTE: The second game has no problems.

Put the IPS patch in the same folder where ZSNES stores sram and savestates, then rename it to match the rom image's filename.

i.e. The ROM image's filename is So.smc, so rename the translation patch to So.ips
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

The first game has a number of issues which were bypassed in zsnes through hackjob code. Of course, when it plays my version of the game (which I've played through in its entirety on a real SNES and works fine, other than the known issues like the gun shop and the turtle) it still locks up when leaving your mom in the very beginning 'cuz I changed internal header name to "SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI" instead of "DIGITAL DEVIL STORY" (which is an egregious misnomer.) ZSNES looks for "DIGITAL DEVIL STORY" and when it doesn't find it, it crashes! Hooray!

My translation is not a "bad rom."

To come out of nowhere (and 6 months late at that...), the people who wrote the patch had already know about that. Here's an excerpt from the Readme I downloaded along with the patch and ROM, describing about emulator errors:

---------------------------------
4.1 The Game that Hates Emulators
---------------------------------
The following issues are emulator issues and are NOT
caused by the patch. It is recommended that you use
SNES9X with the game, as ZSNES has a fairly major
bug which causes the game to lock up. The following
are known issues:

Issue: Game locks up when changing scenes
This is a problem with ZSNES' SPC engine.
Use SNES9X.

Issue: The top half of the names in the stat window
are missing.
This is a problem with ZSNES. Use another
emulator.

Issue: Demon fusion graphics are garbled.
Issue with both SNES9X and ZSNES' graphics engines.
I think.

Issue: Fuma Bell effect does not wear off.
I have no idea what causes this, but it's an emulator
issue.

END EXCERPT
