Earthworm Jim 2 sound/crash glitch

Post by What evar »

Is it just me or does this game have some serious sound glitches and crashes randomly? I've tried several different versions and they were all the same. Will this ever be fixed?

I've had no such problems with EWJ2.

You must not have played it very much then, since it freezes in the first level. The game has major timing issues and will likely not work correctly until the new timing engine is complete.

I've finished it before, but it had some sound issues later in the game too. The rocket level crashed a lot too, so it's not just the first level.

Sorry for the double post, but no one wouls see this if I didn't do it:

I just tested the game with all the versions of ZSNES I currently have (1.337, 1.36, the 25. may WIP optimized version and the 17. july WIP. All Windows versions)

With 1.337 it has the sound bugs, but is stable (i.e. it doesn't crash every 30 seconds) up to the flying king level. (I didn't get further)

With 1.36 the sound effects are there, but they are severely choppy.

With the optimized WIP it's so unstable that it's not even playable. It crashes a LOT on the first level. (I think it crashed ten times when i played through it, I saved regularly to load whenever it crashed) ut is downright unplayable in the second level (Lorenzen's Soil I think) I think it crashed once every minute on average.

With the latest WIP (july 17) is just as bad as the may one. How come it just became worse? What went wrong? Man, I can'
t wait 'till 1.40 gets out :(

A WIP is a work in progress. So it can't be perfect.

ZSNES itself is a WIP.

And even official releases are considered beta (at least for sourceforge).

try snes9x. When something in zsnes doesn't work I use a different emulator for it.

I know it can't be perfect, and SNES9x was just as bad. I just thought it was strange that it was so much worse in later versions than in 1.337 (which is really old). And why exactly doesn't SNES9X allow me to press diagonal directions on my control pad? It's really annoying.

I dont have this problem so it might be a bad install of some evil software, or you can run spybot search and destroy to see if maybe spyware is messing you up.

I do have this problem with both Zsnes and Snes9x and my comp is clean.

A solution would be wonderful.

I also had simlar sound problems with Contra 3.

It is a bug in ZSNES. That's all there is to say. Don't know about Snes9x.

Try SNEeSe or bsnes.

ZSNES is already on v. 1.42, and the latest wips are from either dec. '05 or jan. '06.

although it seems like it's still an issue.

Yes, but it is also proof that some newbies do use the search function before posting

While I realize this post is almost 2 years old, I am wondering if perhaps anyone has been able to get this to work (I figure that within two years, some development, small if nothing else, would have been made). I have ZSNES 1.5, and my game has sound issues, but doesn't freeze at all, until Lorenzen's Soil (level 2), so perhaps some progress has been made. :)

Thank you,

Lysol

Perhaps with the new sound engine, things will be fixed. This topic brings up a lot of memories, because the first time I ever posted on an emulation board was in regards to the problems with Earthworm Jim (way back in 2000). Earlier this year, I broke down and bought the game. Great stuff.
<pagefault> i'd break up with my wife if she said FF8 was awesome

Have you tried BSNES or SNES GT? Both fix the EWJ2 sound AFAIK.
