Bug Report/Feature Request

Post by NMAK »

Before you read on please note thats its likely that some if not all of these bugs are very common or have already been reported, but i've read the whole FAQ and forum posts, I wasn't going to look through hundreds and hundreds. I've checked around, so with that being said if all this has already been said no one needs to get angery I took a look first.

- My rewind key never works on any games?
***EDIT: I just tried it again now an it kinda rewinds, I guess. In Final Fantasy III it rewinds 5seconds or so back in like movie scenes but never for any gameplay bits. I think this is more a request now then a bug. Can it just be like how movies are recorded on ZSNES where it saves all the variables and strokes ext. but then you can play that movie backwards a little bit to that spot you want (say up to 1min of time, and if you hold down the rewind it moves a second back every 1/4 of a second or something) like what you would have in Prince of Persia. Just have an active recorder like your movie feture that always records the last 1min of game. Maybe you could make this an option to turn on or off for lag issues and maybe a little slider to change the recording from 1min to 10min type thing, maybe if possable a history file that saves the whole game and you can just select a time like 2hrs 10min into your game(maybe a little over the top and probably hard to do, and the file would be huge I'm guessing (mind you the movies aren't to bad,it would be rad, but if to hard definitally not needed its a bit over the top.)... I'm not so concerned about that, just a 1min rewind I think it would be an amazing add on and seeing as how your movies work it looks like it could be an easy addition, just always have it record the last 1min of game, the rewind button makes the movie play reversed and you can stop it by letting go taking you to the spot you wanted.
*Fingers Crossed on this one!* :)

- Most cheat codes don't work, I know I have the proper code because it works on my SNES and I know its the right rom because I don't steal roms off the net I get them from my own games myself. I'm entering them properly, ZSNES adds it to the cheats list but it doesn't function, I've tried hitting fix and restarting the game, the only reason I could think of is that im loading a savestate but I don't think thats it?!

- On the menu screen sometimes the screen just rapidly scrolls down differnt menu selectons (Game | Config | Cheat | Netplay | Ext.) and you can't click on any of them... Looks to me as if the keyboard thinks a key is down (possably because I was holding it as I pressed Esc) and if this is the case I understand this may be a keyboard issue that cannot be fixed). I think if you tell ZSNES at the menu screen when it first goes to it that all keys are up then maybe it will fix this. Also when I try telling ZSNES to set a key, and it goes the the screen "Enter the key or button to use" it just blips really quickly, appers then disappers. And it will set it to a key that wasn't pressed, I think this is the same problem as the menu one it thinks the key is down when it isn't I try press and releasing the key it thinks that is down (this is how you fix this problem when it happens in flash) but it doesn't seem to work here. And when I use a keyboard detect program it says the key isn't down, its just ZSNES. I can often fix this problem by Esc in and out a few times and it will always fix the problem if I close ZSNES and reopen, but it is a very common occurance for me. Like I said I think its when im holding a key and going to the menu at the same time, but I think i've seen it just do it other times as well just not as often, I'll try to figure that out if this problem is new to you.

Try if it happens with another keyboard.

The way 'Rewind' is coded makes your first request unfeasible.

It's very different from a VCR rewind mode. It doesn't reverse the emulation. It's just several save states with set times. Each time you press the button, you load the previous Rewind state, which was saved at most ~5 seconds before.

Press several times, and you can go ~45 seconds back in game's time. A better-fitting name for this feature would be 'flashback'... I don't think actually reversing emulation is possible.

Code: Select all

<jmr> bsnes has the most accurate wiki page but it takes forever to load (or something)

Hmm sounds like my rewind key doesn't work right, like I said it only seems to rewind back at scenes where its just storyline or movie not actually game.

And what about the other bugs?
