1.40/1.41 DOS version bug

Post by ReyVGM »

After 1.40 DOS version of ZSNES was released I started to encounter the following bug when I double clicked on a game to play.

Check the screenshot:
http://www.vgmuseum.com/end/bug.jpg

I did not encountered that bug when I used the older offical Zsnes builds or any of the WIP Zsnes builds.

I am using Win 98 & geforce 4 BTW

*EDIT*
I did some checking and that only happens when the ZSNES video mode is set to 800x600x16b VESA2 with no enhancements on (doesnt matter if they are on of off)
Other modes trigger the bug too.
You can start the games fine by double clicking if you have the video mode set to 256x224 and near that. But you have to delete the .cfg file for it to work.
The minute you set it to 800x600 it automatically gets the bug.

Video Game Museum doesn't allow off-site linking. Fix the link please.

sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Just copy and paste the link in your address bar, you can't directly click the link or it will give you that error.

Use the Windows version since you seem to be in Windows.

For computers that are too slow to run Windows + ZSNESW; so that they can run ZSNES in pure DOS mode (meaning that Windows is not loaded at all).

I know I can use the windows version....
But if I'm running the DOS version it's because I'm more confortable with it, it's more stable, faster and doesn't have a weird screenshot bug the windows version has (which is the main reason why I use zsnes dos).
Besides, this is the bug report forum and that is a bug I thought that it should be addressed.

I'll just keep using an older build until it gets fixed in a later version, I'm in no hurry for it to get fixed, I just thought I should have let the bug be known so that it could get fixed.

Well I'd fix "the bug" if I was able to recreate it, I can't.

I think he associated SNES Games as a file type to be loaded by ZSNES, and he's then double-clicking on them in Windows Explorer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but:

1. On my system, the Windows version is as stable as the DOS version.
2. Newer versions of Windows use an emulator for DOS apps, so ZSNES would be slower.
3. Are you taking screenshots with the F1 menu, or with the associated key?

You're wrong.

Oh, wait, you're actually right.

But the DOS version is, as mentioned, better for older low-end machines such as my 166MMX with a whole 80MB of RAM.

On my system, Win version runs too slowly to be any worth. The only game I used it for was Front Mission, and that was before I bought a graphics card that allowed VESA1 mode (And thus transparancies) in DOS.

I edited my first post a few days ago with more info about the bug, in case you didn't see it.
I don't know if that would help you though.

He says he's using 98 which means it probably is faster.
