Overheating and how to get Old Versions ??

Post by nenyo »

Does anyone know where i can find old versions of zsnes? i once downloaded zsnes and it worked on win 3.1 another one worked on 95 and 98. zsnes used to offer all the old versions on there website in about 1999. is there a place somewhere that i can still get all the old versions.
the reason im asking is because with the new versions running on my laptop it overheats and randomly shuts down. i was thinking, what if i were to get a realy OLD version that would run on 3.1. would it use barly any cpu power and thus keep my comp cool?
if it would not than nevermind about that. how do i limit zsnes to use only some of the cpu when it needs to. it gets realy ANNOYING when im playing FF3 and i get realy far, and... it dies...
well if anyone can help it would be nice.

its an Averatec 3150 with a 1.6GHZ AMD Athlon-XP-M mobile processor 256MB RAM 30GB HDspace.

its got two small fans on the bottom that dont work so well, so i got a stand with a fan in it and it keeps it cool all the time except for when im running this app. so i know its no longer a cooling issue.

Allowing your computer to continuously overheat will cause permanent damage. If the problem is just needing replacement fans it won't cost a lot. I suggest you get your computer fixed before complaining about this app. The problem is on your end.

For versions newer than 1.12 simply look on the Zsnes homepage.

ZSNES v1.42 for DOS will work for DOS 6.22, and Win9x.

DOS version eats less resources.
May 9 2007 - NSRT 3.4, now with lots of hashing and even more accurate information! Go download it.

dont know if this would help but if its on try to put off the high priority mode and turn off sound helps too (or at least put stereo off).
the sound thing really works, in my computer if the stereo is on zsnes work slow and when i play online i use no sound at all, since you use a lap top you probably dont have stereo sound.

Turning off sound or at least disabling stereo helps. I wouldn't recommend high priority mode though.

Excuse me for asking, but why would you want to run Windows 3.x on that? :?

Perhaps there's an option in the BIOS which shuts the computer down at a certain temperature. But even still, it shouldn't be shutting off because of Zsnes. Perhaps there is a problem with the cooling system and it should be checked. Running an older version of Zsnes on an outdated OS like Windows 3.1 won't fix anything either.

Way to misinterpret. I was simply using your speech pattern.

the only time in recent history that I made a comment about your posting was when you said:
adventure_of_link wrote:Really, the frames looked more progressive to me when moving left to right.
I intentionally stayed out of your battery project topic, to avoid any condescending remarks. Any further gripes and you can just PM me. I really don't have anything against you.

ill take your advice about the overheating damage and have it looked at. it does ok on everything else except zsnes. its alwaysbeen ok onthat too untill recently. i dont think that it is the app. its not my fans either because as i said, i have anexternal cooling thing.
the reason i asked about the win 3.x was because it used a lot les memory than current versions of windows. im NOT running it on my comp. i have a small partition for win xp on it untill i can get zsnes working in linux. i have mandrake 10.1 on the rest of the HD.
as to the question of why i have a laptop inthe first place? what a stupid question... portability. i hate being limited to one location all the time, and i like haveing my comp in school.

You like having a laptop for being portable but you are using an external cooling fan? Also, old versions of zsnes will obviously be not as polished as the lastest ones.

The old versions will not even run on Win Xp, unless you use a Dos Emulator, which just eats as much resources or even more, than the windows version.

Good luck with your machine.
