Major BUG with in game saving SRM pathways WIN verison 1.42

Post by rudeboyrg »

First of all, I'm using the latest version of ZSNES V1.42 WINDOWS version. My operating system is WINME.
The way I have my games set up is that I have a seperate folder for each game. EG: Chrono trigger folder, Star Ocean folder, etc.
In the previous versions of ZSNES, the save file pathway would automatically change depending on which game I would load. If I loaded Chrono trigger, and then saved my game using an in game save, the SRM file would be saved to my chrono trigger folder. Same with secret of mana, and all other games. But the ZSNES V1.42 is not allowing me to do that. It either does two things randomly

1. Whenever I do an in-game save, it will save an SRM file to the default folder in which the zsnes emulator is in, NOT the folder which the game is in. Nor will it load the SRM from any other folder except from the emulator folder.

2. Sometimes it will choose a save pathway to one of my game folders, but it won't change when I load a different game. Even when I restart the emulator.
For example: I load Chrono Trigger game from the chrono trigger folder, and it loads fine. The SRM loads fine too. But then when I try to load Secret of Mana for example, it will load the game but will not load the SRM save. Why? Because the save file pathway did not automatically change to Secret of Mana. Its still set to Chrono trigger folder. So I can't load my game save. More so, when I then try and save Secret of Mana, it will create a new SRM file under the Chrono Trigger folder.

This problem happens with every game I try on the emulator and does not appear to be a game problem but an emulation problem.
I know that in the previous version, the filepathway always changed automatically, and the emulator always knew from which folder to load the SRMs and to which folder to save them. The Version 1.42 apparently isn't doing this. Please help. :?:

P.S. great job by the way. Aside from this major problem, I am enjoying the fact that I don't have to worry about grafix packs for star ocean anymore. The automatic IP patching feature is nice too.

hmm.. I apparently SRAM Check+Save was not enabled. I checked it and it works fine now. Ironically it fixed another problem. Alot of my games were freezing massively. Clicking SRAM Check+Save seemed to have taken care of that as well for some reason. Oh well.

I suspect that this was probably due to .cfg and .dat files from an old version of ZSNES. It is highly recommended that you delete the config files each time you install a new version of ZSNES to avoid compatibility issues and various unpredictable problems.

Nah. I completely deleted the old version before installing the new one. But like I said, selecting config+save took care of the saving and freezing features. I didn't even know it was unselected by default.

It is unselected by default because it might cause problems in some other games, IFAIK.
