Breath of Fire 2 bug

Post by deputydon »

Hi, Im new to these forums and Ive never had a problem running roms before. I have previously played Breath Of Fire 2 on zsnes and no problems then I had to reinstall windows so I redownloaded everything but not this... It has been quite a few updates since then. Now my problem is this, I get to a part in the game and Ill go into a battle maybe two and then when it loads the world map after the battle it just freezes always the same part of the game. Ive gotten 3 different versions of the rom and it always happens... I had the new version of zsnes and it didnt work so i attempted it on the previous version, no good. I think im suppose to give you this info also:

Type: Normal Bank: HI
Interleaved: No Chksum: OK
Video: NTSC CRC32: 67CDACC5

If im missing something please let me know.

This is a known bug. A timing issue that isn't easy to fix.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

So... I can't do anything about it then? Why would it work before but not now?

...it was most likely a hack in ZSnes.
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Hacks are used to make some games work that wouldn't normally work correctly. The ZSNES developers are aiming to get ZSNES as hack-free as possible. BOF2 doesn't work correctly in any recent ZSNES version.

I thought using the in-game options to disable music "fixed" this one. It may be another game I'm thinking of, though.

Yeah, that might work, since the bug has something to do with SPC700 timing AFAIK. Disabling SPC emulation completely might help too, but then you won't get sound.

well playing the game without music would make it sorta boring... soo hmm.. would I have to download a very early version of zsnes to play? Like a version from like a year ago when I used to play the game?

You could also, IIRC, hunt another version of the rom, that had a trainer (a menu at the start of the game that made possible to cheat) I used to have that rom and it never crashed.

BoF2 will work with Zsnes 1.337. Either that or disabling SPC emulation. Otherwise you will have to wait until the timing is updated, or use another emulator.

I downloaded zsneswv 1.31r1.03 I think that was way to far back haha I don't remember this one at all and its resolution doesn't fit my screen right.. it stretches the game.. And about that breath of fire rom with the cheat screen.. yeah thats the one I used to have.. It never crashed on me either... but I have downloaded three different breath of fire 2 roms and they all screw up at the same part so it must be that timing error that you all were talking about.. Ill download version 1.337 like Bent said and use that... thanks for all the help :)
