I read up as much as I could I this issue, and tried everything I knew how, so I'm sorry if this has been answered and I missed it.
I went to play my zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) one day and I got a Windows error... This wasnt surprising, its happened before... Nothing a healthy reboot couldnt fix. After the reboot, I try again... Same error! (In KERNEL.DLL) After deleting all configuration files and trying again, error! I figure I should go update my version. (I think I was still using 1.337, because I liked the name it I had no problems with it) So I download 1.42 and go to run it... This time I get a DINPUT8.DLL error... GrRrRr! So I go redownload DX 9.0c and let it install... Nothing! I tried Deleting DINPUT8.DLL, rebooting, reinstalling DX, rebooting... I execute SNES and still, Error in DINPUT8.DLL! In a last ditch effort, I go to update windows. After about 45 minutes and lots of updates, I go to run it again, and still the DINPUT8.DLL error pops up.
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

There have been reports that some people had trouble with ZSNES when they had DirectX 9.0c installed. The only way to fix this was to install DirectX8. The bad thing about DirectX is that you can't really uninstall it, unless you use a 3rd party program.

Dictionary.com et al is your friend for such an easy-to-answer question:Agozer how about giving us noobs some info about this. I really dont know what the kernel is...

To original poster - you're probably screwed. These third party utilites can wreak havok on an otherwise stable system, causing a need to reformat.
