Is it possible to use 'netplay->internet' on linux? If so how? Its greyed for me on linux.

Try using version 1.36, netplay is disabled in the latest version of zsnes.

IIRC, the devs wanted to rewrite the netplay code, so they deleted the old one.

Interesting... but why did they remove netplay for the time being, I mean couldn't they have just left it until the new code was completed?

Becuase the latest advancements in timing and precision in ZSNES brought out issues with synchronization in Netplay. In short: it didn't work right anymore.
