Perhaps I'm jumping the gun here, but I checked a bunch of the configuration tools I can find online, and I'm disgusted with how they treat AMD processors.
These tools seem to throw athlon-* processors in the same group as pentiumpro.
Is there any reason for grouping a technically superior AMD chip in the same group as an old subpar Intel chip which doesn't support stuff such as 3DNow or even MMX?
Do the authors of these autotools for some reason not want to allow AMD chips to get good optimization?
Does anyone know of a good alternative that isn't biased?

I don't know if SCons has any hardware detection.
From what I searched so far, it doesn't.
