a big problem for me is that i cant play older zmv movies with new zsnes releases .. the movie wont run the right way
i downloaded a nice chrono trigger zmv movie ( a complete walkthrough from the game ) from zophar.net, i tried different roms like the original jap/usa or patched to german roms but it wont play correctly.
is there any way to fix that or maybe convert that old zmv for newer zsnes releases?
It's not a problem that can be fixed. Basically, the old version of ZSNES had bugs that affected the game the movie was made of. Since a zmv is nothing more than a recording of what keypresses occured at what time, any fixes to ZSNES that change the amount of time in-game things take screw up movies.
For those who want see the full Chrono Trigger movie of Zophar: I made a by far better movie for this game which I couldn't send to Zophar anymore. I created my own site instead and you can find all the improved and new movies there.
The problem with ZSNES v0.989c is just because it is DOS and newer systems and soundcards (without sound the movie won't playback) just don't work perfectly in this version.
I also tried to contact the ZSNES coder and asked for a windows port of ZSNES v0.989c but it would be to much effort and work to connect it as Mr. Nach has told me. But there is still a solution: I found a extremely rare windows version of ZSNES v1.000 (the last version without movie compressing). In this version my improved Terranigma run (better than the one on Zophar) and a Secret of Mana walkthrough of a buddy work perfectly without desyncs. Furthermore my newest Chrono Trigger walkthrough which is 9 hours (yes you read correct) faster than the one of Zophar but with even more items collected work to 90%. Only the first ZMV of the 8 segments desyncs.
You can find this rare windows version of ZSNES v1.000 (which will solve all your problems of the DOS version 0.989c) along with the best movies on my site.

Nach:
A very nice greeting to my first post here. This is my experience that all movies that are compressed (or smaller in the file size) are completely different. I ment that ZSNES v1.000 is the last version which keeps the movie structur similar to the older versions (larger file size, not compressed or whatever) and thats why it still stays in sync in some games (not all). Is it well explained?

The change in structure has 0 to do with your problems. You're saying why it stays in sync or not is untrue and founded on false conclusions, stop spreading misinformation.
The desyncs caused in ZSNES 1.1 and up was due to the addition of TCP/IP netplay code which made it that not every key press was recorded to the movie file because the recording code was moved and all this new frame skip code doesn't call it at the proper times.
You'll notice the TCP/IP netplay code was removed in recent WIPs because I want to fix up all this nonsense that was introduced with that code, and once we're all stable again, I'll be adding new netplay code.

nach can you tell me please ?
Movies recorded with one timing can't be expected to be played back correctly with a ZSNES which uses a different timing.
To get best playback results, use a ZSNES which has the same timing which means the exact same version and perhaps some of the versions next to it.
The latest WIP has the best movie support of all ZSNES builds.
Once some of the post 1.36 SPC randomness bugs are fixed, and I finish up append and some other features, we're going to have jaw dropping incredable movies

Well, there is no way using the dump option sice the movie timing is different in this version and the movie-playback goes out of sync very soon.
But there is still a solution: In another forum someone mentioned a screen capture program called Fraps which could rip the movies directly to a video file.
