Odd Problem, pls help
I've been using Zsnesw for a very long time and recently whenever I load a rom, five minutes later zsnes crashes on me. If I load it again it will crash in less than five minutes. I have tried reinstalling it many times and I still get the same problem. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. I miss playing my snes games. =[
Post your PC-specs, Zsnes version,OS,etc...
without these no-one can help.
maybe also recent things you've done or does your sys have a virus?

I haven't changed anything recently, and I thought it was some sort of virus but I scanned and came up with nothing. However, I am using an outdated Norton Virus Scanner. I need to get a better one but i don't have the $$$. So, it might be a virus of some kind.. Also, I'm using version 1.36. Not quite sure how to post my pc specs (and im a little embarrassed at that fact as well).
If you're looking for a virus scanner, you might want to try one of these:pinkgrafitti wrote:I haven't changed anything recently, and I thought it was some sort of virus but I scanned and came up with nothing. ClamWin
AntiVir
1.36 is very old now (literally years behind the current code). Try 1.42, or a WIP (work in progress) build.pinkgrafitti wrote:Also, I'm using version 1.36.
Ipher generously provides binaries for ZSNESW at ipher's WIP site.

I dled ClamWin and did a virus check, about 20minutes into it, I get 2 blue screens of death (2 fatal error messages), and then I get a message from ClamWin that says an error occured while performing the scan. Guess this means I have something bad on my pc, eh?
I'm going to try Iphers lates WIP and if that doesnt work I will get the latest version of zsnes.
oh and BTW, thanks for all your help everyone.

sometimes a good reformat is needed. if you do end up reformatting (or using a system restore disk),
to ensure your computer's health after reformatting your hard drive, make sure to, in order:
1) Install a firewall. - Windows Firewall (via Windows XP SP2), ZoneAlarm
2) Get the latest updates from Microsoft Windows Update.
3) Install a anti-virus program. - See above post.
4) Install a spyware/adware scanner and blocker - Spybot-S&D
5) Don't use Internet Explorer. It is very old, incredibly outdated, and horribly insecure. - Firefox (Best), Opera (still good).
6) If you have to use Internet Explorer (ie. for Windows Update) read the boxes that pop-up in Internet Explorer while browsing the internet. Pressing 'OK' to everything is NEVER A GOOD IDEA.

Richard C.: You're forgetting get <insert random IE alternate, preferably FireFox, here> and use IE only for Windows Updates.
Also, if you can get hold of a Windows Update disk for your version of Windows, that is about less than a year old, it'll save you a lot of time, especially if you're on Dial-up.
Also, the Active X security warnings that are considered safe:
Microsoft
Apple/Macintosh
Unix/Linux
Sun/Sun Java
Macromedia
Adobe
...and only when you're on their website.

<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?
