feature request

Post by dominicanboy149 »

If you guys have played the Gens emulator then you know that their netplay is incredible, due to the fact that there is actually a waiting room so i can just start up a rom and anybody can join without all the hassles of the IP's and stuff, so can you guys do that too? It may seem a little out of reach but a lot of the emulators out their have it so i think its possible with the zsnes. If you guys can add this, i'd be very grateful.

1. Kaillera is garbage
2. There are already programs that already do this available for ZSNES.

kaillera isn't garbage, its better than nothing at all, and it would be better if those programs came with the zsnes.

Read http://board.zsnes.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4070 . Those can kick Kaillera's ass anyday.
Try out CCleaner and other free software at Piriform

These programs are neither developed by any of the ZSNES team, nor officially supported, nor even compatible with the ZSNES licence (as is Kaillera), so therefore cannot be bundled. They are not even necessary for Netplay operation. Also, compared to the ZSNES Netplay implementation, Kaillera is indeed garbage.

Yeah, except ZSNES Netplay has been broken over the years way more often than it has actually worked! :P

Netplay itself was never broken over the years.

It's a good thing that the Zsnes developers don't bother with the netplay themselves and are focussing on the main emulation. :)

What was preventing it from working? I never paid much attention to it.

Point being though is that regardless of ZSNES netplay superiority, it wasn't able to be used.

Parts of SNES core are getting random inputs. It doesn't matter if using ZSNES netplay, or Kaillera or something else, if there's random inputs, both sides won't be constantly synced.

...You know this how? Kaillera isn't open source. It's held up pretty well considering it hasn't been (officially) updated in eons.

I used ZSNES Netplay on a 56K modem with a PC that did not achieve anywhere near 60 fps and did not desync once when I was playing against some stranger dude in another country. Lets just say my experience with Kaillera is a lot less 'rosy'.
