Auto-Pause?

Post by JG_Pliskin »

Hi, first post here, just wondering if it's possible to have ZSnes automatically pause itself when it isn't the active window.

I thought it did it automatically. At least, when playing by yourself.

Nope. I Alt+Tab out of ZSnes but it carries on playing in the background.

Can't you just press ESC to bring up the GUI and then Start Alt-Tabbing to other programs?

I certainly can, but wouldn't it be easier to have the Auto-Pause feature like most good emulators? Perhaps this is a planned feature for the next release?

As a note, some of us actually LIKE that the emulator keeps on running in a window when you tab away.

When combined with ZSNES not detecting button release events if they happen after you switch away, it makes it convenient for letting RPGs level-grind in the background while working on other things. Not to mention that it's sometimes nice to be able to hear game music in the background.

Where did you mention the introduction of a toggle or option? All one sees is the request for a behavior change without any regard for the original functionality.

Implying ignorance on the part of other readers as a result of your own ambiguity seems rather unfriendly, at least.

So whever someone requests a new feature they must implicitly state that it can be toggled? You're the one being ignorant.

This has become humorous. You either didn't read or didn't understand my post, as I did not implicate nor declare anyone as ignorant.

If you truly understood what it takes to sort through the horrible torture that is the ZSNES GUI code, you would understand why implementing a toggle is no simple task.

Bolded and italicized for effect.

Is that *really* hard to press Esc Before pressing Alt-tab? I mean, they are sooo close together.

Please, don't derail the thread.

Carry on.

Why make so much fuss whether it pauses or not.
If you want it paused ,just pause the game. problem solved.

I already asked about that, apparently it is.

Hmm, let me simplify this for you.

Cebu said he liked it the way it is. You said "You sir, need to look up the word toggle in a dictionary.". Kagerato protested that you never even mentioned a toggle. You protested that you felt you didn't have to. Then Kagerato says this: You weren't being clear that you requested a toggle feature, and then were rude to other people, calling them ignorant (i.e. Cebu). Kagerato maintains that this is unfriendly of you.

Now do you see that he was not calling you ignorant? Highlighting a word in the middle of a sentence shows that you can find the word, not, apparently, that you understand the meaning of the sentence.

This discussion is moot. Hitting escape is as good a toggle for auto-pause as any.
