"Hide extensions": I disabled that one some time ago because it can indeed give you a pain in the ass.
Maybe that's indeed the culprit with Tsukasa's problem...

ok wtf, it worked fine and i played the saved games. then i shut off my comp. and unchecked the box again and it wont load the game save now.

Check that the files only have ONE extension.

Right. Remember that only the last extension is the real one.
Others are part of the filename and should be erased like Agozer says.
