Tales of Phantasia (Frozen at start)

Post by Zer010 »

Hey guys, I've been trying to solve this problem with my ZSNES for a while now...

I find myself able to play ToP on ZSNES version 1.36, however when the new version came out (1.42), I found that ToP would freeze right when I started it up. The Emulator doesnt freeze, just the game. No sound, and I see a black screen.

Any ideas?

Delete your config files and try latest WIP:
http://ipherswipsite.com/zsnes/

Please scan your ROM with NSRT:
http://nsrt.edgeemu.com/
and post back.

If a black screen still occurs after the above suggestions, try pressing alt+enter. And next time, read the docs that comes with v1.42.

If I remember correctly it was an incompatibility problem between the rom and the english patch: you must use nsrt to deinterleave (or interleave? Just scan it: if it's interleaved deinterleave it, otherwise do the opposite thing) the rom; or maybe is a header problem: use ipsedit to add (or remove? see above) the header from the rom.
Both nsrt and ipsedit can be found at http://nsrt.edgeemu.com

How hard would it be to put in an auto-deinterlaver (sp?) in ZSNES?

While I cannot directly answer this question.. I don't really see a need for it either. ZSNES shouldn't be responsible for it, honestly.. Yes, some people are ignorant, plain old stupid, or just lazy about the problem, but none of that really justifies the emulator having to do it for the user.

As I see it, as long as it's documented; then ZSNES (Or the patch creator in this case, or whomever in whatever case) has done it's part, and the rest is up to the user to deal with it. I mean, seriously, it takes no more than a minute to fix an interleaved ROM, why bother adding automated bloat for those who can't read the documentation and do it themselves?

As hard as the giver's cock up your butt.

We removed it for a reason.
