I just downloaded the latest Zsnes onto my new laptop, and was happily setting it up, when i noticed that the keyboard lags in the menus. That is to say that when i try to naivigate the menus or type in file names there is a very noticable pause for any thing to happen. If i press up 5 times, it waits one seccond, goes up once, waits another second, goes up another one....
this is the only place that the lag happens, and any commands carried out by mouse exicute normally. There is also no lag in any of the games i play.
Any idea as to why this is happening?
Keyboard lag in menus

It may be caused by the fact that v1.42 uses 100% cpu in the GUI and your laptop reacts to cpu usage with a higher latency.
Unless you're using netplay, get the latest wip (don't forget to remove your config files).

<jmr> bsnes has the most accurate wiki page but it takes forever to load (or something)
I'm starting to have this issue myself. It's occuring with this current WIP (Oct. 20th), and the past few too. However, for me, it's not just lagging in the menus, it's lagging in-game as well. My movement is delayed and held down. So, instead of just a delay and moving down one part, I slightly hold a direction/button, and the emulator moves a sprite where I don't truly want it to go to. It goes a little further, or it goes not as far. My Y, B, X, and A buttons also lag on their selection. Ironically, I my shots are much faster in games like Super Metroid, I couldn't move though when I wanted to, or jump properly either. When I play RPGs, I can't properly select certain things.grinvader wrote:It may be caused by the fact that v1.42 uses 100% cpu in the GUI and your laptop reacts to cpu usage with a higher latency.

I.E.: Final Fantasy II(IVj)
I want Rosa to use Cure4 on the entire party. I hit the 'A' button to confirm that I want to use Cure4, however, with the confirmation, the delay causes it to become 'A', 'A'. So, I'm stuck healing whoever is in the middle.

At first, I thought that it was just my keyboard. So, I tested it out on a word processor. Using the enter key, directional keys, DSCF, etc., I managed to have perfect response and no lag/doubles. Afterwards, I downloaded SNES9x and played both FFIII(VIj) (It was faster to get into a battle than FFII) and Super Metroid. The keyboard worked fine for both games.
I have also come accross this behaviour. My laptop is a Thinkpad R50e using the Intel 82852/82855 chip set and I can replicate it via 2 ways:Sonuis wrote:Have done so each time before.snkcube wrote:Try deleting the config files that ZSNES generates.
(1) Enable VSYNC setting (In Window Mode)
(2) Enable Triplebuffering (In Full Screen Mode)
This causes the behaviour as described - keys responding slowly, if it all.
I can solve it by DISABLING all sound. The key presses then become responsive and not delayed.
I haven't been able to work around the lagging problem other than by this - anyone else with a solution. I am using version 1.42n
run in high priority mode.
Try not to have any programs running in the back. ex: winamp. - That means play with no other windows opened but zsnes.
Change resolutions, try playing around with it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Play on full screen.
Get a better cpu? Probably not. My 1.6ghz 256mb ram handles it fine but twice this happened to me because i had winamp running. I opened zsnes and it started lagging like hell. Had to end task it and was forced to play with winamp off and every other window closed.
I hope this helps?
