anisotropic filtering?

Post by ruffj05 »

ive read a topic about something, and it had some stuff about anisotropic filtering in it. they said that anisotropic filtering works only in 3d, and zsnes only emulates 3d, yet it emulates doom in 3d fine. if anyone could clear this up a bit for me, itd be much appreciated :)

Doom isn't a true 3D game.

This is funny.

You can get ansio filter for doom - nab one of the doom source ports(which are miles better than the one on the snes) like zdoom or doom legacy.

but for the snes version - no, its not possible and pointless. Not only because there is no really good way of making use of any type of hardware acceleration, the "textures" in the rom lack enough detail for ansio to even be noticed or even a big enough screen for it either.

If you really want to see what ansio would be like on for doom on zsnes, nab one of the two above, set the resolution to 320x240, and reduce the size of the screen till its about 40%, and then turn on the ansio.

Actually, you might not think it but the textures in SNES Doom have retained the exact same detail level as in the original game. To save memory space, instead they just decreased the number of different textures used in a single level.

Of course, your point still stands, why the hell try to enhance SNES Doom? In fact, I've heard there's even a PWAD for Doom somewhere that tries to recreate all the differences that were put into SNES Doom in regular Doom. So that would make it even more pointless.

No dumb requests please.

Whatever you think they are, consider all SNES games 2D.
