I am recently new to the ZSNES area, and downloaded it recently as well. I was thinking that it was absolutly great while playing final fantasy 3, but eventually my gaming session had to come to an end. I saved the game using the save state feature by selecting state 0 and saving, when resuming the game it told me it had saved under that state file. So I was quite annoyed when I returned to carry on my game, and realised that when I went to load the save state, absolutly nothing happened.
If anybody can help me with this problem I would be greatful. As you can probably imagine it is quite difficult to play a final fantasy game, from start to finish, without saving at least once.
Hving problems getting the save states to work

The configuration file (*.cfg) in ZSNES' directory is a plain/ascii text file. Open it up with notepad or similar and then set the saves directory to something appropriate.
For example, if you're loading ROMs (*.smc) from a CD-ROM, you've got a problem. The state/zmv/sram directory is automatically set to the same as the ROM directory unless overrided in the configuration file. Obviously, files cannot be committed to CD-ROM the same way they can to a hard disk. Thus, a manually specified save directory is necessary.
If you're using ZSNES from under a limited-power user account on an NT-based system, you should also check to be sure that you have write access to the directory where the ROMs are stored. If not, get write access under an administrator account and change the save directory. Or copy the emulator and ROM data to where it is accessible.
Priviledge problems are far more abundant on unix-like systems than Windows. Most Windows users run administrator accounts all the time.
