Super Smart Joy into Windows Millenium
Is that how you spell millenium?
Anyway...
I just bought a Super Smart Joy. It said it was compatible with Windows 98 ME, which is Millenium right?. I plugged it in to that dinosaur computer and it wasn't able to set up... something about a joyhid file not found? So I brought into work and plugged it in and it started up without any problems... I didn't have to push any buttons and it said it was ready to use and it worked great in the nesticle, which is what I want it for....
So I'm wondering if there are any dll files that I should download (and which folder to place it in) for my Smart Joy to work with Windows Millenium.
I went into the system information and it shows a human interface device-HID under the hardware, which I assume is the Smart Joy because I unplugged it and it didn't show up. I also went into the Gaming Options and I can't get it to recognize the Smart Joy. I'm assuming the problem is that the computer doesn't know to look at the USB port as an option for a device. Is there a way to change that?
Is this enough info to help you help me?
Thanks,
Carl

OKay. It is Windows ME.
For some reason it wasn't recognizing it through the USB port...
I ended up figuring it out.
After realizing what was wrong I banged my head on the counter.
The controller was looking into my hard drive into an AOL folder for the joyhid file for some reason ... Within the control panel/system properties/hardware manager, I kept trying to look into other folders to find the file, but my computer kept in reverting to the AOL folder to look.
So I finally did a harddrive search for the joyhid file and found it ... of course it was in the windows/system folder ... Within the control panel/system properties/hardware manager tried reinstalling it while telling it to look there and it worked.
Sorry for taking up your time. Figured I tell you what I did incase someone else has my problem.

Heh, and even Microsoft doesn't recommend it... that's sad enough..
I guess this was about the time they decided to switch to NT kernels.

Good stuff ... I was wondering about ME ... I'd never hear of it until somebody gave me the computer ... I kind of like the green screen it came with...
Yeah it was given to me and since I'm putting my fiance through school, we can't afford a home computer... No Internet or nothing at home ... I can't even step into the 1990s at home yet
But get this, some of you other geeks might appreciate this ... I only bought the Super Joy so I could use it with Nesticle and Tecmo Super Bowl. ... I'm in the process of making a 2005-06 Tecmo Super Bowl ROM ... AND I'M DOING IT ALL FROM THE WINDOWS ME!!!!
Yeah, I know, real crunking crazy

virtuanes is the best nes emulator out there thats also in english. it supports most nes games including unofficial games and is excellent at playing nsf and nsfe files. contains excellent filters is awesome in general and only requires a p2 200mhz or better pc with 2mg video ram.
