Can't play PAL Game?
I can play NTSC games but not PAL games (even if I force the game to PAL )
The program reports OK for the CRC (btw white color report )
What can I do?
Using Zsnes ver 1.43 Jan/5, with WXP, DX9.0
Thx

Err... I have seen yellow reports and so.

Umm.. you're mixing that up with the color reports in Snes9x...
Just use the US version of that game... unless there is some significant difference in gameplay between the US and PAL version, I don't see a real problem.. you're just going to have to deal with it until this is fixed.
The only PAL-only game that I know of that doesn't appear to have any problems is Terranigma... so..
As said in a different thread, there is some differences in the PAL timings that ZSNES is not properly getting correctly... I wouldn't worry about that if there is a working US version of the game.

well the problem is that it has not only an FX chip, but a pal one to boot. now I know some older version plays it perfectly, maybe like 1.3 and under, because I have played the pal yoshi's island on zsnes with no probs. it gives you a language selection at the beginning

Deinterleave your rom with NSRT.
(This implies the E rom works without trouble in current wips)

I'm glad someone said that. I was reading through the thread and was like "Why hasn't anyone noticed it's an fx game and he has to deinterleave it?". I was afraid I was gonna have too, and I'm too lazy fro that.grinvader wrote:Deinterleave your rom with NSRT.

Hmm... I didn't really notice.. but it didn't say that in the image that it was interleaved... unless there is an issue with detection of SuperFX ROMs and interleave (which I guess then it would be the primary reason to remove support for interleaved ROMs)...

I believe that was why pagefault removed support for it.Deathlike2 wrote:Hmm... i don't think so..Deathlike2 wrote: The only PAL-only game that I know of that doesn't appear to have any problems is Terranigma... so..
most of my roms are pal versions and work perfectly
the megamanx series have problems, that's right
and donald duck in maui mallard is very slow compared to the (u) rom..
if you're german / french you want to play rpgs like zelda / som in that language (=pal) too.Deathlike2 wrote: I wouldn't worry about that if there is a working US version of the game.
it the game is english anyway, you're right.

I meant that that Terranigma was specific PAL game to my knowledge that works.. I didn't say any other PAL game works or does not work... my PAL knowledge is only limited to that game. Also, Terranigma is PAL only. I'm not sure you understood the context of my statement...l3v3l wrote:i don't think so..Deathlike2 wrote: The only PAL-only game that I know of that doesn't appear to have any problems is Terranigma... so..

the only difference is the lockout chip on the actual cartridge, and a single byte that detects pal/ntsc on the snes. if you change this one byte, terranigma will run ntsc with no problems. this isn't because of timing, it's because nintendo of europe, and japan, and america have different markets, and they don't want people buying between them. it was released in japan as ntsc, again the only difference in code would be a single byte, and the language.Deathlike2 wrote:Also, Terranigma is PAL only
now if you wanna see some funky pal shit, try super mario world or allstars pal running ntsc or vice versa. should work in emus, but on hardware there's graphic glitches all over cause there is different code to try to speed up the pal version.

I remember seeing some sort of hardware connection like the Game Genie that allowed you to play Japanese games (Super Famicon) on a SNES... it didn't seem to always work for whatever the reason...phonymike wrote:the only difference is the lockout chip on the actual cartridge, and a single byte that detects pal/ntsc on the snes. if you change this one byte, terranigma will run ntsc with no problems. this isn't because of timing, it's because nintendo of europe, and japan, and america have different markets, and they don't want people buying between them. it was released in japan as ntsc, again the only difference in code would be a single byte, and the language.Deathlike2 wrote:Also, Terranigma is PAL only

dude, you're dealing with a bunch of snes-heads here. that device is an adaptor, there are many different kinds, but all work on the same basic functions. dealing with the plastic, and no mods, a US cart will not fit into a PAL or JP console. JP carts will not fit into US. JP and PAL will fit each other. but inside each cart is a PAL or NTSC lockout chip. so if you do modify your console/cart or use one of these adaptors, then you now have to deal with the lockout chip. so with an adaptor or mod, JP and PAL will fit into a US console, but the PAL will not boot (the lockout chip holds the snes in reset.)
so these adaptors allow the different casings to fit into different consoles, but some also have an addition cart connector that allows you to plug in a cartridge that has the same lockout chip for your territory console, while a cart with a different lockout chip is plugged into the top. this will allow you to plug PAL terranigma into a US snes, with a US cart as the secondary cart which its lockout chip is being used intead of the one on top.
but then when you play it terranigma will give a message on screen saying you cannot play this game on this console, even though you bypassed the physical cart discrepencies and bypassed the lockout chips. at this point you'd need a game genie, pro action replay or some other game modification device to change a value in the rom to not detect the PAL/NTSC timing of the console.
also games with extra hardware, like sa-1, fx etc can have more advanced methods to make sure the game is being played on the console it was designed for.
as a side bonus of info, I played starfox PAL on a snes with the lockout chip disabled, the little cart tabs removed, and an NTSC/PAL switch. the game played with a vertical bar of corruption over the screen when played at NTSC, but pays perfectly when at PAL. so playing games by other means (such as emulation or different territories) can have unexpected results, however someone on these forums is bound to know what games do what.
