Ok.... maybe I look like a just one more noob that dont read the topics befope posting... but... I looked for..... for an hour or two....tryng to find the same case but there isn't.... so Im asking for help..
about 30:00 os games runned of the translated version of Star Ocean, I save stated.... then I started walking, freeze...., load, walkin.... freeze...
When I go down freeze as well, any directions. WHen I realised that I was just at the entrace of a cave, I tryed to go out and save, so I could Resed and blablabla..... so I entered the Menu, anything ressed in Menu triggered the Freeze.
I tryed to find something that look aliked that shit.. nothing could explain.... someone got and Idea of what could it be? I was playing in 1.46, I jsut changed for 1.51 but the problem persisted.... Heelp -____-
EDIT: and Yeah... no Game Codes (Game Genie, Shark or simple codes form the game) r beeing used as well =)
EDIT2: SOMETHING NEW. I Used the Code for NO ENCOUNTER and stoped to freeze sundenly... but still I can't enter any city or do anything in Menu.... so can't save -______-

People seem to love making up version numbers right and left. I've seen bugs reports for version v1.34 or v1.45 or other stuff, and when we say it doesn't exist, I get weird responses like yes it does, it was a special private version a developer made or other such stupidities.Deathlike2 wrote:There is no ZSNES 1.46. Where the hell do you people get your version numbers???
May 9 2007 - NSRT 3.4, now with lots of hashing and even more accurate information! Go download it.

I play it with Snes9x (which dejap actually recomends), save state all the time, and I haven't hit any of these problems. It froze once, at the very biginning, after a fight because I hit the menu button when Dorn was trying to say something. Other than that, it works as well as I could hope for.
Moral: If you manage to save, try Snes9x?

There's a slim chance of you being able to enter another screen/save, if you try random stuff like walking one step left and then walking into the door, if it freezes, try two steps, and so on, but it's very Very VERY unlikely to work.
Conclusion: Either start from your latest .srm and don't use .zsts, or use snes9x

Star Ocean (J) [!]
CRC32:6BA9E08D
Patched with DeJap Translations v1.0
Works great with zSNES v1.42 (Windows)
Works not-so-great with zSNES v1.50 and above
I'm having the very same issues with the latest Windows build, myself. But using v1.42 oddly seems to resolve most of the problems. (except for the BGM dropping out)
Be sure to check out the official documentation for the patch, because a number of these issues are addressed there.

I hope this info helps. There are numerous bugs that are inherent in the game and have nothing to do with the patch itself (such as an item duplication bug, and various freezing or crashing bugs)

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with that quote
these bugs exist on the original cart and hardware

AOL just said that ._."Grendel wrote:If it's any consolation, I have the same issues with the unpatched version. I hear the problems also persist in other emulators, so it's likely limited to the game itself.

to the max.
Snes9x (for some reason) emulates the game without bugs.

I couldn't get past the title screen with SNES9x, (1.51) for some reason. (the "DeJap" logo was all scrambled)
The logo is scrambled because SNES9x finally began emulating the SNES VRAM hardware limitations properly. It's a bug in the translation, as well as in ZSNES, believe it or not. SNES9x is doing exactly what it is supposed to.I couldn't get past the title screen with SNES9x, (1.51) for some reason. (the "DeJap" logo was all scrambled)

IIRC, there is a bug in Snes9x regarding paths and Star Ocean... it should be easy to find on the Snes9x board.
Found it: http://www.snes9x.com/phpbb2/viewtopic. ... star+ocean

Probably non-existent. The patch has not been updated since 2003-12-31.FitzRoy wrote:What's the chance that a new patch version is released to prevent people from thinking it's an emulator bug :?
But given our colorful history, I thought it would be amusing to go ahead and fix it myself, so ...
EDIT:
I've fixed the graphic, and submitted the patch to Nach and Nightcrawler. I'll post a link to it here as soon as I can. Turns out, I was wrong about the VRAM issue. It turns out $4801.d0 was set on the DMA transfer of that graphic, hence bsnes and SNES9x were attempting to decompress it using the S-DD1 ... only problem was that the graphic wasn't compressed at all. ZSNES seems to be able to determine this and skip S-DD1 decompression. Unfortunately, I know of no one with an S-DD1 hardware rig to verify if this is even possible. I don't believe it is, as that would require a lot of additional circuitry, and if you don't want the decompression ... don't set that bit :/
So my fix was to compress the graphic using Andreas Naive's S-DD1 compressor. It now works in all emulators fine.
Without a hardware rig we'll probably never get again, we won't be able to definitively say who has the bug (it's either both DeJap and ZSNES or both bsnes and SNES9x). So at least for the time being, please don't report the bug to anyone about this issue. It's not possible to tell where the problem is. If you want to run it in emulators besides ZSNES, use the patch.

Resistance is futile.
