CPU usage is 100% while in User Interface

Post by Psychophanta »

CPU usage is 100% while in User Interface, but while a SNES game is being played it is usually under 5% in a 1800MHz CPU.

Of course it is, I have a great need to have ZSNES running in the background inside the GUI. When I do that, I can't rip DVDs or burn CDs anymore

For the 4th time, I got it when we went to the other forum where this retard posted a pic with his credit card # and expiration date.
I also took <retard smiley> and <double fucktard smiley> from these forums.
I used hq4x on the latter to make <huge double fucktard smiley>.

Edit: smileys removed to preserve TC's mental sanity.

Browsers have a cache.

Anyway, yeah it's not a problem, more an annoyance.

Does anyone know why this problem happens?

I would have to guess being that the GUI is in assembly, there is a GUI loop that constantly runs sucking up all the CPU resources.

Using a windows based GUI or something to that effect relinquishes processor control to teh OS when it doesn't need it.

I would think that might be a bit hard to fix in ZSNES without a new GUI. I'm not sure how you would go about doing that in assembly.

The GUI drawing code could be run off a timer or some other event based item and only updated x number of times per second.

I should imagine using 100% of the CPU is not ideal for the battery life of a laptop.

Edit: although this only happens in the GUI, so may not matter too much. Some emulators such as Gens take up 100% during gameplay as well, so I suppose it's not so much of a big deal.

Or you could just use a more recent version which no longer guzzles CPU in the GUI.

I was having major connection issues this morning. I clicked 'submit' and it died and timed out each time. Apparently the board got my data though, i just never got anything back from it.. Sorry.

Last night the board was weird for me, similar problem Nightcrawler described. It was only this site though, no other ones were giving me problems.

EDIT: Still doing it today too...
