Great, there goes one of the last bastions of 2D animation. Fuck you, Capcom. Way to turn SF into yet another stiff plastic doll collection.

Re: So, SFVI is not gonna happen anytime soon.
I was more concerned with the lack of street fighter IV and V, but it's just a common case of roman numeral fuckup.
Have a nice day. :D

I have nothing against 3d fighting games, in fact many great fighters franchise are in 3d, but yeah...Street Fighter in 3d is not SF..If it's gonna play like Virtua Fighter or Soul Calibur, I don't see the point. Maybe it'll turn out to be a revolutionary 3d fighters, but I doubt it.blackmyst wrote: Anyway, back on topic: Shitsux.
edit: I think 2d will be kept alive for quite some times via fan programmers...Check out some Doujin games.

Yeah but... none of them really have the time or budget to make beautiful animation like in SF3. :\Snark wrote:edit: I think 2d will be kept alive for quite some times via fan programmers...Check out some Doujin games.
I like Soul Calibur as well. That's not the point though, it's just that people who want 3D graphics are already spoilt for choice. It's retarded that assholes just have to weed out every single last fucking trace of any 2D graphics out there. A 2D SFIV could've been so beautiful. Instead we're going to get stiff fucking mannequins instead of real animation.
Yeah, and those that read my original post would see that I couldn't care less about that. My problem is that it will look like shit.snkcube wrote:I was just about to mention that. Check Melty Blood. In my opinion, it's easily on part with many big companies' games.blackmyst wrote:Yeah but... none of them really have the time or budget to make beautiful animation like in SF3. :\Snark wrote:edit: I think 2d will be kept alive for quite some times via fan programmers...Check out some Doujin games.

Time will tell us I guess. Speaking of which, was there ever a 3d fighting game with *2D* gameplay that didn't sux? Like, the only game I can think of are Street Fighter EX/Rival Schools/Final Fight Revenge...Yeah, and those that read my original post would see that I couldn't care less about that. My problem is that it will look like shit.

The Smash Bros. series? Sure, they aren't "regular" fighters, but it's still a lot of fun to play.Snark wrote:Time will tell us I guess. And Insert Credit would like to point out that the first picture shows Ryu with a raging hardon.
It has 3D models. It will look stiff, artificial and dead compared to the organic lively motions in SFIII. No other 3D game has ever proven otherwise, why would this one be any different? It's the nature of the beast.snkcube wrote:There aren't any gameplay videos out to judge if the game has shitty animations or not. Let's just wait and see.
Yeah, I've seen bits of that, good point. IMO it still doesn't quite reach Capcom's heights, though.Snark wrote:Check Melty Blood. In my opinion, it's easily on part with many big companies' games.

If we're talking SF3 specifically, then I agree, which is why I was talking generally. Capcom however has developped some crappy stuff, namely, the whole cross-over fighters.blackmyst wrote:Yeah, I've seen bits of that, good point. Melty Blood could be described imo as visually similar to KoF (but MUCH better animated) with the gameplay heavily inspired by Guilty Gear (a fighting game know for it's deep engine)
Oh I found the Doujin game "Glove on Fight" Imo it's pretty sweet. Definitely very different than the usual fighting game.
edit:
Nice: Retro Street Fighter CE high level play...Honestly I never thought there was much depth to the original(s) Street Fighter 2. I mean compared to more modern iterations, but those Japanese players somehow managed to find depth in it...Well the game WERE more limited, so it's always impressive to see people pushing the game to it's limits.
I know most probably won't give a hoot but for those can recognize high level play when they see it:

I hated SFII when I was younger, or maybe I still do, I can't do a hadoken motion on a gamepad, even if my life depended on it.
I remember when I was a kid, I used to work at an Uncle's Shop, working with my cousins, the shop used to have 2 arcade machines, very old school, like, the ones that used coins with grooves as credits. One of the machines always got a new game everytime the arcade guy came to collect remove the coins, the other one always had: STREET FIGHTER II.
It was funny to watch people play that machine, like, every kid that came in played as RYU, if someone else wanted to play, they waited until the person playing would lose, to choose RYU again. If someone lost agains on of the bosses, instead of using a credit to restart the match, they would wait and start all over again. (Later on, I realized, that the shop was at a sort of poor neighborhood, so the kids wanted to squeeze as much fun out of the credits they bought)
Once my Uncle asked one of the Kids why did everyone choose Ryu, the kid told him that wasn't true, that not everyone just played as Ryu, he bought a token.. And he chose Ken.
But yeah, Street Fighter II, I had to use Guile to be able to withstand a bit the hadoken onslaught of my cousins. I like Smash Brothers sooo much.

I chose Ken over Ryu because I thought his rolling throw (with hard kick) was ultra awesome, but my favorite by far was Dhalsim. I have something for underdogs.

Yeah...that's the problem with road congestion, you always end up in it when you least want it, I agree.grinvader wrote: ATARI DUMBLEDORE
They actually have live commentators when they have Virtua Fighter 5 tournaments (and I mean real commentators. Not the annoying pre-recorded ones of the game) . I guess the players are used to just block it out somehow, as I would think having your every move commented live would tend to be distracting.Panzer88 wrote:I love how they have commentators for a tournament of Street Fighter, we need to get some of that over here.

Some gameplay footage revealed. It's not bad from what I've seen. If you folks want to watch the stuff without the interviews, check out the links below this.
