Secret of Mana - 2 player

i want to play secret of mana with my bro these holidays and have got the rom and zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator)

but where is the option to play 2 player? :S

is there like a special rom i have to get?

Just press select, and the second controller will be activated.

mm so at the start of the game there is only one player?

Yes. Until you find a second character for your party, the game will be one player only. It's lame, but it helps the story make more sense.

Also, I'm pretty sure the second player hits start, not select, to start playing. Select changes which character you personally are controlling.
