Windows refuses to burn data DVDs
Okay, a little problem....I have a really good DVD R/DVD RW/CD, etc. burner, right? Well, I wanted to back up several files (around 1.5GB) on a regular 4.5GB DVD RW. Well, Windows thinks it a CD and not a regular DVD, even if I put in a blank disc. It says that it's full yet the size in My Computer states "0MB used; 0MB availible". WHAT THE CRAP!? Am I doing something wrong?

Try InfraRecorder. It's open source and works well.

Try CDBurnerXP too, in addition to ImgBurn.

1) burn playstation 1 and 2 disks with it
and 2) dump CD images of said PSone and two disks?
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

I know, but is there some free and/or open source app (besides shit like CDRWIN, Pete's ISO dumper thingy, ya know, the thing that comes with the AutoPopStation converter) that'll do it?mudlord wrote:Alcohol can do that fine.
otherwise, there's no "perfect" replacement for Nero.

I have to use an older version due to being stuck with Windows ME for the moment.
That's almost true. IMGBurn won't do multisession disks and there for won't copy or burn some ps1 games such as Air Combat. Also, it wont rip music cd's because of no multisession support. But if you can live with that, then IMGBurn is the best alternative out there.adventure_of_link wrote:can you do the following with it:mudlord wrote:Or better yet, ImgBurn. Alcohol is good for just about everything you want copies of, however, it will not do data cds or dvds.mudlord wrote:Alcohol can do that fine.
If you want a lighter version of Nero then try Nero LITE. Smaller download without all that extra you don't need or want.

Unless those DVDs are DVD-RAM, in which case you have to disable the normal CD recording from Windows Explorer ability on the drive to use. That's that I had to do to use my DVD-RAM discs.odditude wrote:No.
XP does not support burning DVDs natively, only CDs.
My DS game friend codes:

..because the third-party software that came bundled with your computer (probably a Toshiba laptop) doesn't play well with XP's built-in CD burning.bungiefan wrote:Unless those DVDs are DVD-RAM, in which case you have to disable the normal CD recording from Windows Explorer ability on the drive to use. Regardless, it's still not natively supported by XP. Try writing a DVD-RAM in that drive on a clean install of Windows - it's not going to happen.
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.
