Thoughts on Hellgate: London

Post by Astoroth88 »

SO, I recently acquired Hellgate: London via X-mas lol and I must say....dissapointed. I refuse to pay an additional $10 for a game that cost $50 to start with. I can play online, but freebies as I call them, get gipped hard core. Lower amount of items, limited access to items and weapons, lower storage room in stash, no hard-core or elite mode, etc... Course what can you expect from developers who hail from Blizzard, there greediness is spreading it seems. The game play over all isn't as addicting as I'd hoped. The attack patterns are limited, and stale. Monsters, although seem to have a good variety...just don't cut it. the most impressive creautre i've run into thus far is the boss of act 1, and that was only because of his size, nothing more. Items and weapons are decent in variety, one complaint I have is the Sniper rifle, I was hoping for an actual sniper rifle not a single shot rocket launcher. It doesn't even have a zoom to it for FPS view. FPS view helps a bit with the ranged classes but doesn't do much other than change the look of game play, no reason for crosshairs really. over all, waste of a christmas gift thus far, unless they fix it by doing....oohhhh lets say GETTING RID OF "SUBSCRIBER" b.s. they received $50 already, how much more do they want? My arm? perhaps a leg? Even WoW didn't cost much to start out, and you could even just download the client for free and start an account with a gamer time card. I must say that this game seems to be a failure for flagship unless they do some major over-haul.

I can name a few games that are MMO's and don't cost extra, one coming to mind is Guild Wars, another that's a bit old now but Diablo 2. Server's cost money but at $50 a month and millions upon millions of people buying it, the maintanence of a server shouldn't be a problem. If they start running low, do what other games do, release an expansion, it extends the story line, adds new content and they could charge another $50 for it if they like, if the game was completely free and doing very well they wouldn't have a problem selling it. heck, there are still people buying guild wars, even the first one, i've seen the local walmart go out of stock of it a few times.

You know.. you could always wait for the price of a game to go down, especially if you know it will be around.

Idiots pay more early, only to be suckered unless they don't care and want to play the game, regardless of the cost.

It's not rocket science.

Ah, I was assuming it was $10 a month from your post, which is acceptable for an MMO. ^^;

I heard a baseball announcer say it in the world series(Though worded a bit differently. He said "It's a swing and a miss!"). :P

Sorry, I'm not putting out an extra $120 a year for a game I already paid for.
I only make that exception for Warcraft because it's a good game, where hellgate isn't that great, it actually bores me.

Why? There's a lot of multiplayer games that don't charge extra.

There's even free MMORPGs.

I would have suggested runescape, but the fact that it uses no 3d hardware acceleration might have gotten me laughed at by people that hadn't looked at it since beofe it went fully 3d.

I had an enjoyable time with Grindnarok Online, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

It's called Ragnarok and needs a lot of grinding ingame, hence Grindarok. Eh?

Finally, some people that agree about the free to play thing. :D

I played Ragnarok there for awhile, was fun but the whole "snes graphics" kinda dulled me out of it.

RuneScape is just a load of fail for people with Dial-up, I wouldn't waste the bandwith.

I won't be playing single player games, they're boring, and I won't have to. as said from posts above, there are plenty totally free MMO's along with plenty of free2play ones.

btw Rydian, #1 did you draw your avatar yourself? it's pretty good. #2 are those really your PC specs or just a joke?

the majority of free to play and free MMO's tend to suck. by being boring.

that was a really simple inference.

and about hellgate. you didn't pay for it, so just stop playing it if it's giving you so much grief. nobody's making you. PROBLEM SOLVED

move along

see the point of getting some one a gift is that they expect it to be used, and I don't want to make some one feel bad by just tossin the game aside.

RF Online went totally free, good game IMO, specially the chip wars. Also theres 2moons, although the grind was horrible when I played, which was a long time ago
