Metroid 3 / Super Metroid bug.

Post by Rydian »

Yeah, there's an entire FAQ dedicated to them, but I've read (skimmed) it once or twice and didn't come across this.
Even if it's in there, I decided to make this thread because I can supply a .zmv.

So when you fight Kraid, he's like. In the ground, and you do him some damage, and then he busts up and you get the entire quadruple-size room to fight in, right?

I managed to kill him before he busted up. I did this by hitting his mouth with a super missle when it was only half-open. I found if it was a quarter open, or fully open, he'd close it right after getting hit, but with it half-open, he keeps it open for a second, and his claws weren't in the way of the shots.

The issue was that since his scripted event hadn't happened yet, the room view was locked on the bottom-left, with the entrance, since until he busted up, he was a barrier for the right side. With him dead, no barrier.

And what's kind of funny is although I didn't get to explore the top half of the room, after he died, I ran back to the previous room, and... it showed that I had explored the full boss room on the map, though I had not.

I come back in, and the view is normal, and the 'roof' is gone, as if you came back after beating him normally.

Did this with no codes, american version of super metriod.

This is:

1- oooold as all hell
2- incidentally very known

Watch some recent TASes. If that one surprised you, you'll be blown apart.

TAS?

Like, speedruns?

Never watched any metriod ones because I didn't want to ruin it for myself since I hadn't beaten it.

Yup.

If you keep farting around, the screen goes black totally.
Apparently it's still running, though I didn't know it back then.
I first ran into it on a replay. Used the "start with hyper beam" Game Genie code. Blew a hole right through Kraid's skull. All hell broke loose.

Pretty much.
Hyper beam has the interesting property of being able to hit him while his mouth is closed.

It was really funny. I shot him once, and he spent a while going into successive hit reactions before he died.

I'm trying, I'm trying. Now that I finally learned to press left/right BEFORE jump to walljump, I can actually continue the game. ^^;

you guys both cause me brain damage! nah, I had other moments of slowness, but honestly...

I had a similiar moment of old news discovered over at the sonic cult like a year or so ago.

I rembered this cool thing I found in Sonic Adventure, a ring off the map in a chao garden where there are to rings, anyways they were like "someone found that forever ago..." followed by a cussout flaming session sonicult-style, the sad thing is, back in the day when I first found it was prolly before anyone else posted it on the internet but it never occured to me to talk to anyone about it.

/end derailment.

Ouch, I've only been able to do the bomb jump in a chain like... three long at the max. I tend to want to rely on finishing the game with as many of the real powerups as I can, minus all those pesky missle upgrades and subtanks buried in the walls that I don't know about 'cause I don't feel like reading guides... 'cause DOS mode zsnes has no windowed mode.

Haha, I joined a sonic forum once 'cause I really like the old genesis games, there were maybe 50 members there.
I got banned for being a furry.
Total WTF. From a sonic forum?

ZSNESW / printer? You can use a certain item later in the game to find hidden upgrades.
Also, the beat of the background music can help sometimes with the bomb jumping.

Not that you'd need it to complete the game...

Yes. We're still bitter that you furries absolutely ruined the childhood memories of our beloved Tails.

You know damn well what I'm talking about, too.

No, that would be too nice.

They are more like the kid who cried for Britney on Youtube or the people who think Paris Hilton has contributed to society.

Never actually looked at it from that point of view. On the other hand, no one feels remorse for knocking boots with a childhood friend so...
