Blizzard just released a nocd patch for Starcraft and ...
So...this is a interesting move by Blizzard I think. This was announced yesterday - but for those who don't know...Blizzard North just released an official (yup ya heard me right) NOCD patch for Starcraft. It's now 1.15.2. It's the entire game w/expansion.

Also they have plans to make War3 No-CD as well in the next few weeks.
Maybe it's a move to get more players to revive Starcraft so they get more sales with Starcraft 2? I dunno...but interesting move...but good one!

Well, yes and no. You have to still copy a big chunk of data to the hd (though, by today's standards, it is a joke). For sure, they want the userbase to increase for the next game.
However, other companies like Blizzard have realized that 10+ year old games have value being "free" as long as it keeps the userbase happy.

yup, still need a valid cd-key to play on Battle.net. I forgot about Unreal being nocd as well....
It's true you need to copy the install.exe to your harddrive and rename it starcraft.mpq and/or broodwar.mpq. BUT there are "other" versions of Starcraft on the net and utililities which remove all the sound and cinema from the game and reduce the .mpqs from 550MB to 120MB or so each. So that way it's totally portable...if ya swing that way.

either it's currently unbalanced, or they just don't want to tell the public so they have something to hype later, even if it is just the same as everything else in greatness.
I like this move, it makes me want to reinstall and play it again right now too.

I read on ign a while back that the delay was the balancing of the zerg.
heh...I just made a portable starcraft which works flawless. They should release a no-cd for diablo2 w/expansion - athough the entire game would be over 2gig I am sure...but hey that's nothing these days.

They fear the obligatory rush, is all.
Also the UN have put a restraint on their hype amount to prevent massive damage in korea.

Gameplay trailers, cinemtaics and artwork have at leats confirmed the presence of Zerglings (and its Baneling upgrade), Hydralisks and Mutalisks. i hope they provide them with a less expensive air support.Neo Kaiser wrote:So far the only new unit that I had seen from the Zegs are the acid worms.

Yep they had shown the old units but so far the banelings are the new ones. I'm glad that the Nydus Canal was replaced with the Nydus Worms who are a lot cooler looking. So far they had shown the Protoss and Terran's new toys but only 2 new toys for the Zergs. They must be creating something that look very nasty.
Yes I know that my grammar sucks!
