anyone speak spanish?
I know there are more than a couple Spanish speakers on this board, so I was wondering if any of you would be interested in helping me translate one of my programs into Spanish.
It's very little work. 50 lines I think are left, and it would be nice if someone would check what I've already done on the other 150.
The program is called 'soesrame' (Secret of Evermore SRAM Editor). I was recently informed that it didn't work on the European versions of the ROM. They changed the checksum for some reason. Before I release an updated version, I thought I would try to translate it.
The guy who told me it was broke is French, so he's doing the French translation. I did the German (though I imagine my German has seen better days). I have done a partial Spanish translation using the Spanish ROM. I don't think there are any other official translations.
If anyone is bored and wants to spare 30 minutes.

The beta version, which should translated based on your locale, is posted at http://games.technoplaza.net/temp/soesr ... 3_beta.zipcorronchilejano wrote:Send it in, I have some free time these days.
All the translation files are in there, but are also in a separate archive http://games.technoplaza.net/temp/ts.zip
The Spanish one is soesrame_es.ts. It's a text file (xml) containing all the lines that need translation. The ones that haven't been touched are marked with the word unfinished. It's one of the property tags I think.
Let me know if I messed up anything while copying from the official translation.
It can be edited with Qt Linguist 4, or any unicode text editor (even notepad works fine as long as you have Windows >= 2000).
Thanks.

Allright I see the files and the lines I need to translate, and now, call me an ignorant, but, where do I see the lines I HAVE to translate? You know, literally. Im downloading Qt linguist open source right now just in case although I use my own editor.

The text to translate is "Warning: Unsaved Changes". You can put it in between the <translation></translation> tags.
Anything that has a type="unfinished" property I haven't touched. If you delete or move the soesrame_es.qm file, the program will go back to English and you can compare the original text with the translation.
Is that what you meant?

My point exactly.
EDIT: Think u could send me an SRAM file? I currently don't have a ROM to generate one, and I'd like to test it.
EDIT2: Checking the weapons, I see that most of them already have a name. Are these names taken directly off the Spanish version? I know there's one, but I played the english one only, any feedback on that? Some are mistranslated.

There is an SRAM file in the soesrame-0.93_beta.zip file. "Secret of Evermore (U).srm".corronchilejano wrote:My point exactly.

Anything I translated was taken directly from the Spanish version (Secret of Evermore (Sp).jma), though it's possible I transcribed something wrong.

You want the big letters on bold? There are also big bold letters with a unknown language.
*Edit* Nevermind I opened the wrong file.

I'll make a quick retranslation, but I'll also have to go through the game once again, just to make sure they match.

I encountered a problem and is that a Talon is a bird claw and in Spanish we call all the claws by 1 name "garras" only the claws in horses, pigs and the like are called "pesuñas". Boy in spanish can be called "Niño" if less than 13 yrs old or "Jovencito" if it is a teen. In PR we use a more standarized word called "nene" but i don't know if used in other spanish contries. *Edit* I forgot about "chico" and "Joven" who literally means young.

I didn't know how to do the boy one. I translated it as "Muchacho" since it's the one most classicly used (and by classic I mean 1950 and going back). It STILL sounds very odd since every country in latin america and in Spain uses a different word (we use "Pelao", in Argentina there's "Pibe", and so on). Muchacho is pretty much used by any older guy to refer to a younger guy.
I finished a translation on my side, although I didn't translate any of the equipment, only what was left, since I intend to pass the game once again later to see exact names. There's a lot of weird ones again, with incorrect references.
I was thinking in making this joint, how about we just post everything we have to translate here, and figure out a correct name for each one?

Neo Kaiser, I think he was referring to the fact that the program doesn't recognize saved games from the German Version
It seems it ALSO doesn't recognize Spanish save games as I already tested (S) [b3]. Guess we'll have to use the default save game.
Anyone know of any differences between the versions?

I have not patched this version for the European checksum change. So, no, that version will only work with US SRAMs.
If it is important, I can post a patched version, but I haven't finished integrating the change into the main source yet. I'm working on that now.
edit: I have posted a european binary at http://games.technoplaza.net/temp/soesrame-beta-eur.zip
It is soesrame.exe only, so you will need the rest of the stuff in the other version to run it. The (U) SRAM won't work in this version.

I just wanted to build a side-by-side list for the items. More accurate than guessing.

Then let's make the list. We can work with the SRM file we already have. EDIT: Im just gonna post a list, so give me a couple of minutes. No need for three or four people to work on that.

I didn't even notice you say you're from Germany. This is great. My German is old and rusty. It would help to have a native to point out any mistakes I made in that part.creaothceann wrote:I just wanted to build a side-by-side list for the items. More accurate than guessing.

The character map is ASCII for the most part. I know there are some differences from utf-8 and the German accented vowels.corronchilejano wrote:The obvious would be playing the game and finding out what the real name is. Can anyone map a character table to dump the script?
There is a ton of text in the Spanish ROM starting at 40713h. Not sure if this is the whole script or not since I can't read it.

Oh my oh my, didn't think it was posible, but indeed, it has a huge part in pure ASCII. Spanish can be found here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/85561450/Ev ... p.txt.html
I havent checked it completely, but maybe everything needed is there.
EDIT:
Since I finished double checking everything, I'll edit my previous list to include the rechecked items. Whoever did the previous job also checked the spanish rom XD
There's a couple of words that don't seem to appear in the program listing but are.
On alchemy, we find "Muro Protector", that's protective wall and "Osmosis" which is, well, Osmose? Magic Drain?
They're probably dummied out, but do you have any info on those two?

I did the original translation, and yes, I pulled everything directly from the Spanish ROM. I did a side-by-side comparison with the English version. I just want to make sure I didn't transcribe anything wrong (wrong/missing accent marks or typos, or I put a translation on the wrong source).corronchilejano wrote:Oh my oh my, didn't think it was posible, but indeed, it has a huge part in pure ASCII. Barrier and Force Field are all I can see that makes sense there, and they already have translations.
There is no Osmose as there is no magic. Magic was replaced by Alchemy. If you have the ingredients, you can use a "spell", otherwise, you can't.
The one dummied spell I know about is called Laser. I don't remember if it does anything at all if you enable it. I probably tested it at one time, but I can't remember. If you want me to doctor a Spanish SRAM with the spell, I can post it and you can check it out yourself.

Well, Im not actually saying they're new spells or anything, but they do appear between the other ones in the rom. I've played the game before and I don't remember ever seeing those. Have you ever checked differences between the european releases and the american one?
I'll upload a fixed translation file in a couple of hours. Everything's done, I just want to double check, specially for the menu, where the quick key should be the one that's also used in programs in spanish.

Preliminary version: alchemy names are still missing. It's been a while since I played SoE, and I'm not sure how to get them all to show up.
If you're sure that the names in soesrame_de.ts are correct then I'll just update the rest of that file.
