Asking for permission to copy
I am asking for permission to use the zsnes network code in my project. I am not vary good with these licensing stuff but its open source and I will have no trouble using whatever license and terms I would need to use for this. So Can I please use it?
Thanks in advance

The license says GPL but I am not particularly familiar with it. I need permission from the author to use the sources in my projects? I am only used to BSD and MIT licenses since I never used anything outside those two.
I am well aware of its age but it still runs and its still used. On top of that, it has a tcp part, something I've never tried before.

I'm not aware of the specific permission procedures for licensing regarding computer programming, but my logic would dictate that if you really want to seriously ask for permission to use the code, you should find a way to personally contact the coders, as in an email with your personal information and ask that way, unless there is something in the particular license ZSNES uses that saves all that.
Giving permission to random message board user doesn't sound like a good idea, if you ask me.

The TCP/UDP code itself isn't too bad.
It's the code on top of that that actually handles the netplay that is a total nightmare, and sat on top of the movie code, and just got in everywhere.
If you want to use the code, then your project also has to be licensed under the GPL, and follow all the rules of the GPL.
If you don't like the GPL terms, then you'll have to talk to _Demo_, as 99% of the TCP/UDP code is his.
