final fantasy X cutscenes...
I would like to rip these from the disc. Not having the disc on me atm (it's in storage), I have been trying to download them. I have found them on youtube, and in a torrent as mpeg-2, but they are all low quality. I'd like to make better versions using the original source material.
I'm not sure how they are stored on the disc. Anyone know how I could rip the videos? I'm assuming if I had them, that I could easily convert them with mencoder.

Both would be nice, but I was referring to the FMVs.I.S.T. wrote:Most of the cut scenes in FFX are rendered using the game's engine. You can't just rip them, sadly.
Or are you referring to the FMVs that don't look anything like the game's normal graphics?
I suppose it might be possible to hook my PS2 into my Tivo, encode things that way, then convert. Time consuming, but doable...

With a TV Tuner Card, you can play PS2 games on your monitor (or any system so long as you can use s-video or composite cables)...
...and use the card to do a screen recording of the rendered cutscenes (the one's that aren't fmv's).
TV Tuners are very cheap on ebay.
Newegg sells every good ones too.

Franky, recording from the screen is the stupidest way to record off a TV card. Most software can record right from the card. Either way, that introduces a lot of degradation. You're converting compressed video to analogue, then converting it back in to digital where it's compressed again. I think he wants to get the best possible quality.
Either way, without the discs on hand, it'd be hard to determine how they're stored. I can't help since I don't have this game, or a PS2.

Thank you for playing.

Maybe you are not asking for this kind of advice, but I would check veoh, it's a site like youtube, except that if you download a program, you can download the videos that are uploaded, with really nice quality.
I downloaded the Mazinkaiser OVAs, the Shin Getter Robo OVAs and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann from there, with very nice quality.
