What the heck is going on??
Alright, I thought Square Enix had a so-called "we don't want to release game on the Virtual Console" policy (see Soup Nazi http://kotaku.com/gaming/virtual-consol ... 255077.php) However I was surfing the net this morning and happened to stumble upon this: http://www.vc-reviews.com/news/2008/05/ ... _mario_rpg What the he** is going on?! I though SE didn't wantto do this...or am I wrong? Can we say "gizensha" (hypocrite)?

Isn't this game more Nintendo than Squaresoft (that was their name before the merger)? It's like how Breath of Fire is relative to being moreso a Capcom game than a Squaresoft game.
I think the overreaction is unwarrented.

I just found it a little odd saying as SE said they "would rather make their money off of remakes of old games". Well, they'd at least better make this a EU/USA VC release, as well. I really didn't mean to come off as overreacting, but when I saw the news on IGN, etc. I thought it was, you know, ironic.

Even so, if you looked into the background of this game, just because it has the Square label on it, doesn't mean it was actually done by them.
There's a fair chance that Square did some consulting in the game, and that associating with Squaresoft assumes RPG, which is exactly what the game was.

I don't think it's odd at all.neo_bahamut1985 wrote:I just found it a little odd saying as SE said they "would rather make their money off of remakes of old games". I would bet good money that Nintendo owns Mario RPG, not Squeenix.
Much like Nintendo, not Rare, owns Donkey Kong Country.
Squeenix has zero input.
there is a major thing wrong with neo's post: using kotaku as a source. a site based on rumors probably isn't a good one to use to support an accusation.
the other thing is he's seem to have missed the Final fantasy cyrstal chronical spin off game that was part of launch of wiiware in NA.
the last thing: dropping Japanese into every other post is just lame.

Does [Kevin] Smith masturbate with steel wool too?

Especially one good at horribly mangling whatever they read into a disgusting perversion of the facts.funkyass wrote:there is a major thing wrong with neo's post: using kotaku as a source. a site based on rumors probably isn't a good one to use to support an accusation.
But... I think pretty much every gaming blog is like that.
Seconded. And thirded.the last thing: dropping Japanese into every other post is just lame.

Re: What the heck is going on??
I thought hypocrisy involved preaching something different than one practices, so that one could reap the benefit of others practicing, without the cost of having to practice it oneself. So if Square were suggesting that nobody release anything on the Virtual Console, but then released something themselves, I'd call them a hypocrite. But if they simply changed their mind on their own releases, they could simply have re-assessed things and come to a different conclusion as before.neo_bahamut1985 wrote:Can we say "gizensha" (hypocrite)?
