I want to use some sort of hosted solution for a VPS to run multiple domains (completely different sites).
I'm thinking perhaps 100 users altogether in an hour running some medium to heavy PHP 5 scripts.
Anyone know of any good cheap solutions they can recommend, where it won't lag like crazy, isn't too expensive, and is easy to manage for someone who doesn't have much of a clue?

If you're on a budget, I've found no one else in the past few years that can match price with what Slhost offers. Note, to get their best deal, you need to pay semi-annually (see the pricing specials at the bottom). You can get it down to the equivalent of only about $22/month for a Level 1 VPS if you pay that way, which I haven't seen matched anywhere else.
I've used them for over 2 years now. They get generally good reviews over at WebHostingTalk (respectable place to research hosting options by the way). They are a managed service which means they'll do a lot of simple work requests for you free of charge and help you out.
My personal opinion is they give average service overall. I have had a little bit of down time here and there and I do run into instances of slow performance thanks to other people on the hardware node with runaway scripts or other sources of high CPU usage. They'll address the situation when I complain, but they could improve when it comes to fair distribution of CPU usage to not allow these 'hogging' situations to occur.
I'd be interested in hearing who you end up going with and your experience with them. I've stayed with slhost because of price, but you find anyone as cheap, I'd be potentially interested.

I noticed Slhost mentioned they also handle domain name registration? How much do they charge per domain?
Thanks for the tips, I'll keep you informed.

I don't have my domains through them. All my domains are through Namecheap. Namecheap used to be through Enom, but I believe they got their own ICANN accreditation last year. They've been reliable for DNS. I don't think I've had any downtime with them in the past few years other than a brief few hour long stint one time.
They typically offer coupon codes for new customer discounts. Their normal prices aren't bad either. They can handle your DNS for you. I use them for my DNS rather than set up and maintain DNS server on my VPS, not to mention theirs is better than I could do. The other reason I had chosen them is the information protection. After you register a domain, typically your information is plastered publically to the Internet for that domain, however they (and I'm sure other registrars too) offer their 'WhoisGuard Protect' service which cloaks all that information for you.
