I was playing with the latest Mandriva (didn't like it) and had to reinstall gentoo. I don't have mkisofs installed right now and I need it to make a backup disc.
Does anyone have any USEFUL information about the differences between cdrkit and cdrtools. I could care less about licensing issues. CDDL and GPL are both a-ok in my opinion. I need something other than propaganda, and I find it hard to trust either debian's or joerg schilling's account to be impartial or completely fair.
Joerg schilling says the debian fork (which I recall using in gentoo before my reinstall) introduces (or reintroduces in some cases) bugs. So I am leaning towards cdrtools. Anyone know a reason I should use cdrkit instead?

I myself tried researching this topic like a year ago, and practically everything out there is propaganda one way or another.
What I have been able to tell is that cdrtools does have a lot of issues which cause slowness or downright not working with later versions of Linux (I've been experiencing a lot of them till I switched to cdrkit and wodim).
Cdrkit on the other hand is properly compatible with newer versions of Linux.
The other stuff which you'll hear is a load of licensing junk, and whether cdrkit patches really fix or break stuff, and whether Joerg is intentionally crippling cdrtools for whatever propaganda reasons.
