FF6E (or III) graphic problem

Post by Joni »

I looked trhough some pages of posts and didn't see anyhing about this topic so I desided to report it. If this is allready known problem, I apologize.

I didn't know how much data is enough so I'll put at least this much.

Questions are copypasted from the "read this first" thread.
1) Make sure you are using the latest WIP of zsnes (found at http://ipherswipsite.com/)
I am running 1.36 windows version.
2) We require detailed information on the rom. Just saying the name of the game is not enough. If possible, download NSRT, scan your rom and paste the full output of NSRT with your bug report. If your rom is not recognized by NSRT, then it is likely that your rom is corrupt. In any event make sure you post the CRC32 with every game bug report. CRC32 is displayed in ZSNES WIP on game load.
---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
File: ff6e.smc
Name: FINAL FANTASY 3 Company: Square
Header: SWC Bank: HiROM
Interleaved: No SRAM: 64 Kb
Type: Normal + Batt ROM: 24 Mb
Country: USA Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 120ns (FastROM) Version: 1.0
Checksum: Good 0x5F32 CRC32: A27F1C7A
--------------------------Database--------------------------
Name: Final Fantasy III
Country: USA Version: 1.0
Port 1: Gamepad Port 2: Gamepad
3) If your rom has a Bad Checksum on startup, then your rom is corrupt, and any issues you are having are not our concern. (if it is a problem with a translation patch or hack, then contact the maker of that patch).
Checksum is ok, as you can see from above. I am not using hacks nor language packs.
4) Be sure to give a thorough description of your problem. Just saying "x" game has graphical glitches is not helpful. Say what exactly the problem is, and the events that caused it. If it is a graphical problem, be sure that you turn off all filters to see if it still occurs, and include a screenshot if possible.
Problem I'm having is a graphic problem that accures during battle scenes in the game. I have noticed at least three different situations that the problem happens.
- sometimes when the game characters move up "out of screen" there will appear some graphic errors (copy of the sprites of game characters) on the top of menu boxes.
- Sometimes when monsters in battle screens are located very close to the menu boxes, ie. as low as possible in the battle area the hand cursor either disapears or gets corrupted / flickers when it is on the top option (usually fight) on the menu.
- When doing Sabin's Firedance blitz the whole upper area of the menu boxes get's somehow corrupted.

I have tryed chaning the video options from the zsnes (btw i am dumb) but I experience these problems regardles of the resolution or the other settings. (Sorry, but I have not gone trhough _all_ resolutions) I will try this in the future and post a reply to this thread to report results.
5) If you are having problems with zsnes, and it is not related to a particular rom, then be sure to post your system specs. These include your processor, operating system, ram, video card, and sound card.
Opteron 1.6GHz, Win2000 SP4, 1GB of ram, ATI mobility radeon 9600, SoundMAX integrated soundcard. (HP NC8000 laptop), playing with the keyboard untill I get the adapter for SNES controller. :)
6) If you are having an issue with netplay or controllers, please post them in the appropriate forum.
N/A
7) Do not bump a thread if there is no response. It is possible that we do not know how to solve your problem. Be patient.
I wont. :)
To those replying to bug reports, please be helpful. We all know that geocities doesn't allow hotlinking, that their avatar is too big, and that thier English isn't perfect. Let the moderators deal with such issues. Flaming is not necessary, and makes this forum less useful. If you notice a bug report that does not have the necessary information, then make a direct link to this thread. Do not say "Well, you should have read this thread first", as that is very evident.
I'm trying to be helpful. I still would like to say a big thatnks to all of you guys (and maby girls if there are any) who have created this emulator. Thanks alot.

My to do list for this problem:

- Find a battle that this problem happens and systematically go trhough all resolutions with all different graphic settings to see if some don't have the problem.
- Try other emulators to see if the problem happens with them.
- What ever you can suggest that I have'nt allready tryed.

Well, how about trying the WIP ?

If we say that it's because there are more than two years worth of improvments and bugfixes between 1.36 and the latest WIP...
Get the wip at the above address, check if your bug occurs again. If it does, by all means please say so.

I must say... Now I feel stupid.

Somehow I have managed to confuse / mix abreviations and have not noticed that I was using an old version. Silly me.

Well good for me still that I did answer systematically to all the points in the "before posting a bug report" thread...

Thanks for your tip.

I'll get back to this topic if the problem (or some other problems) arise.

Actually I noticed that the same problem still exists in wip version.

I've been so busy playing and living my life that I didn't have so much time to report back here. I think I'll leave this matter for now.

If some new versions corrects this problem then great and if not that's just fine too. Wont bother my playing.. :)
