i picked up eye of judgement for ps3 for 30 bucks. great deal, i read up about the game in some more detail, downloaded cards to scan in because i'm way cheap and won't buy any more actual cards unless they become dirt cheap or i have nothing else to use disposable income on.
odd that i would buy a ccg given those feelings, but 30 bucks for a quality game and fun accessory was a little too good for me.
i turn on the ps3 and check out store content. if i want to use these new cards, i'll have to drop 20 bucks on an upgrade bundle. tough to swallow, but it might happen down the line. going to make wanting to buy cards that much harder, though.
but now we finally get to an area of XBL's vast superiority to the PSN: standardized upgrading process. When a game needs an update on the 360, it's the same thing, every time. also quick and painless. I've updated games on the ps3 before, uncharted went smooth enough. free content for folklore was cake. demos and trailers come in fine.
but eye of judgement? biggest cluster* ever. i put the game in, and it does its check, and tells me that there's an update. then it asks me if i want to install it. sure, why not.
2599 files that need to be downloaded. big number, but i've installed guild wars online, not so dis-similar from a first boot-up of that. now the stupid really kicks in.
it checks for HDD space for each file individually. not a big deal, only took a minute or three, but checking once for the whole update would've been 20 times faster.
over the wireless, the ps3 can pull down 200 - 300 kbps pretty consistently. it still shouldn't take too long, right? i'll just go eat something upstairs while it does its thing, right? WRONG. as i've been typing this post, i've had the update fail to grab one of the 2599 files about five times, which brings up a prompt saying that if failed to download it. now it's waiting for me to answer yes or no as to whether i want to continue the update.
for the last three hours, i've been babysitting the stupid update. sometimes, like in the beginning, it will grab a few hundred files without problem. then, it will fail every 5 files or so. it JUST finished, and the game version jumped from 1.00 to 3.00 .
i couldn't background download, and even if i could, i wouldn't since you have to babysit it the entire time.
xbl's standardization of things like updates stop this crap from happening.
i had given myself a couple hours to mess with my ps3 tonight, maybe see a little of persona 4, make a little more ffx progress, but instead, i'll try eye of judgement for 20 minutes, and then i have to get to bed.
gay.

I could say the wii update stuff is pretty fine as well when it comes to not fucking up and not needing you to proceed.

keep your fanboy crap out of this. just because you don't have a console is no reason to hate. all three have their positives and negatives. people make their choices based on what they believe they would have the most fun with. defending that choice with stupid hate is stupid. are you 8?
i happened to think that i would have the most fun with all three. your face.
before i shut the ps3 down, i found out that the update was nearly 3.5 gigs of stuff. so the time was alright, but i won't forgive the babysitting.
and it might take a little while to grasp the idea that eye of judgement is a card game first, and the ps3 is just there to make it more immersive.
and wii updates are smooth, but so are firmware updates on all three. i haven't played a wii game that needed an individual update, though.

calling it a troll implies that it's ever succeeded at trolling. i insult neo bahamut and franky the same.
it's in love with its ps3, and its <single_digit> must have exclusives. my ps3 is a blu-ray player first, and a ps2 second. then it's a current gen gaming machine.
we'll see how much he's bragging when i'm playing lost & the damned, mass effect 2 (whenever that comes out), star ocean 4, or replaying lost odyssey, fable 2, left 4 dead, or any of my 360 games the ps3 won't ever see.
FFXIII is no longer his great triumph as a reason to own a ps3. i'm buying it for 360 simply because i can. tekken has been taken away as well. RE5, anyone? but to be fair, they jumped ship last gen.
home is garbage, i fail to see the point. the trophy idea isn't exactly original.
but then again, we both have folklore over everyone else. i've only finished the prologue for each character, but it seems like a fun game. and mgs4, i suppose. personally, i'm not a fan, but i never played the previous ones. lbp, if you're into creating stuff. and valkyria chronicles, but i'm waiting on a massive price drop, since my ps3 gaming is not a priority. one could count resistance since it did score well in reviews. reviews also said that it was very much "standard fare," and "the only must have, if you had to pick one" launch title. i hear the sequel is amazing, though. and i almost forgot killzone 2.
ups and downs on all consoles. fanboy rage is retarded, and shouldn't be tolerated at all.

So Eye Of Judgment didn't even let people download on the background? That's really very bad.
If a RPG is released multi-platform and if I had 2 consoles I would pick it for the PS3 because the game would be on a single durable disc. I scratched a DVD and a Blu-Ray at the wall and the DVD was white of scratches and the Blu-Ray who was the Welcome to the PSN Blu-Ray only got 5 deep scratches.

Yes I know that my grammar sucks!

No, I am just deleting Franky's posts, because they are useless. It would be in the best interests of people to not acknowledge them, because it will make threads look awkward.
As for the topic at hand, I have never used the PS3 updater, but I agree the Xbox one is simple, painless, and usually not very large.

<pagefault> i'd break up with my wife if she said FF8 was awesome
