ZSNES causes computer to freeze.

Ok, I've got a bit of a problem. After a bit of playing, ZSNES tends to freeze on me. Actually, everything freezes. I can hear the last half-second or so of sound repeating over and over. Nothing will respond, and I have to restart the whole computer.

This had happened with multiple ROMs, so I tried starting ZSNES without loading a Rom, and leaving it for about 5 minutes. Once again, the computer froze.

I'm using ZSNES 1.51.
Windows Vista, 32-Bit
Dual Core AMD CPU.

You need to provide a little more info, such as video card, sound card, and maybe mobo.

Although, it sounds like something else in the background is at work.

You should also consider setting ZSNES's affinity to one CPU.

i don't know if it's dell overall nowadays or just the canada unit, but that build list is a goddamn nightmare.

@Liquidessa: you may benefit from the "AMD Dual Core Optimizer" available here - it's helpful under XP, but AMD's site doesn't specify whether it's applicable under Vista.

There are updated audio drivers and an updated BIOS available, also; in particular, the audio driver update is marked "Urgent."

It may behoove you to pop the cover on your case and blow out any accumulated dust bunnies - most mcp61 boards have insufficient cooling to begin with and it doesn't take too much more for that chipset to overheat.

Its typically not applicable, but it doesn't hurt if it does install.

Since you've installed new ram, you probably need to manually adjust the timing and voltages for it, Vista has been a shit about Ram being run at the correct settings since it released.

not applicable on an OEM box. no standard dell/hp/acer box has ever exposed such settings in the bios; either it works or it doesn't. if it boots, memtest will help demonstrate that it's working properly.

if the op bought memory that needs overvolting to run properly, he needs to replace that memory with fully JEDEC-compliant memory.

Its not a matter of overvolting, its the Mainboard not reading the SPD values correctly.

OEM mainboards almost always have a Retail version to match, and flashiung the retail bios onto the oem board exposes the settings.
