Sound problem

Post by PlutonianEmpire »

For the past day or two, I've been playing simearth pratically nonstop. Now, when I load another game, the sound doesn't work. I tried the "save/load state" thingamajig, as well as the autosave, but neither are working. Right now, the sound will work only on SimEarth.

Any advice?

When I'm in Map view in SimEarth, the map doesn't display at all. Is it something with the ROM, or the emulator I'm using, ZSNES?
how on earth are you playing this "for days" when the map doesn't work?

Because the map isn't actually required for gameplay. I can just switch between Edit view and Globe view.

And I've had the emulator only since saturday, when a friend told me about it, so i am VERY new to this emulator stuff.

Try NSRT 3.2. You can save the ROM info to a text file, post it's content.

The Sim- games (simearth, simant...) are not currently properly emulated.
Try to quit zsnes, then restart it before playing another game.
Tell us if that fix your sound.

Well no, it's an emulator issue. Even if your ROM is good, zsnes won't emulate it the right way.

So you don't have sound in say... Super Mario World ?

What are your sound settings ? (Config -> Sound, tell us what is checked).

Actually, when I first download it, the sound actually works wonderfully, but, as the day goes on, the sound works less and less. Then I have to redownload it. Still, great sound at first, but then there is no sound at the end of the day. Basically, I'd have to download it over and over and over.... once a day for the rest of eternity just to hear that nuke go off in simearth or listen to the music in simcity.

I tried Aerobiz, still no success.

Also, I'm hard of hearing, so when I can't hear when I want to, I get cranky. (I'm "anal" as some would put it.)

EDIT: BTW, I use Zsnesw for Windows.

I seriously doubt that you have to download ZSNES over and over again. Are you removing the ZIP file after each "installation"?

No, why? I keep it just in case something happens, such as a virus deleting the program files.

...

But you know the difference between downloading and unzipping?

No idea about your sound problem.

I could be wrong, but this seems like a virus is attacking his config files. Try a virus scan, as well as an ad/spyware scan. Follow Paul Bunyan's sig for such tools.
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

I did a viruscan and deleted the stuff, but still, no sound.

EDIT: Just so you know, I DO have the SNES console, and the simearth cartridge, etc. I have it on my computer because some of the music sounded better coming out of my computer's speakers than from the TV's speakers.

Those details are really none of our business, to be honest.

Anyway, we could really use the stuff Grinvader asked for; under Config -> sound, there's a whole mess of options like Enable Sound, Stereo Sound, sampling rate, and lots more picky stuff like Gaussian interpolation, sound buffering, disable SPC emulation...all that stuff. It'd be a real help if you'd post what's checked and what's not. Specifications on your sound hardware would also be useful.

Here's what's checked:

Enable sound
Stereo sound

Sampling rate at 48000Hz
Volume level at 100%

Surround sound
Sound buffering
Disable SPC emulation

Interpolation:
8-point

Lowpass:
Hi-quality.

This is what IS checked in the sound box.
