F1 button won't work
I've been having a problem with my F1 button with ZSNES. Tried to rip the opening graphics from Alien 3 but the options wouldn't appear whenever I tried to press F1. Also tried Super Metroid (Justin Bailey patch applied) and it still wouldn't work. Know why?

The F1 button works while you're in the game... like the savestate keys.
The only possible reason that I can think of as to why F1 may not work, is because you have disabled the GUI.

Do the other F-keys work? If you have one of those disgusting keyboards with F-lock, you would have to toggle.
