Ps3 controller up button in Super Metroid

It's not working. Is this a common problem? I'm new to the whole emulation thing but my GBA and Genesis emulators work fine with my ps3 controller as does my ps3. Also the up button on the d-pad doesn't work in super star wars either. Any thoughts as to why this is or suggestions as to what I could do?

So the problem is "my gamepad's up button doesn't work in ZSNES"?

Have you made sure it's mapped properly? If you accidentally bumped something else while you were assigning it(likely candidates being the lower shoulder buttons in this case), it won't work right.
