Bans from the freenode network: length?

I was recently banned by the #freenode irdo bot for "spam", when I was in a trolling mood. I am not going to contest or ask for a review of the ban (since I feel my aims of self banning are complete, and so I do not want access to the network at all). However out of complete morbid curiosity, I am asking instead how long do bans by the irdo #freenode bot last? Are bans manually reviewed or automatically handled, or not handled at all (so network bans are permanent).

Which personally, would be great. Hopefully making it permanent would force me not to be such a raegdumping prick, since then I would learn how to at least show a inkling of fucking respect to idiots I hate .
