problem running in full screen
This is really bizzare. I've had ZSNES for a couple of years, and never encountered this problem. Basically, what happens is, when I try to maximize the window or change settings to run it in full screen, my computer just reboots. I've always run it in full screen and this has never happened before. I'm running it in windows XP, on a Compaq series 4000, my video card is, I believe, Intel(R) 82815 (and yes, I know how bad that is, I am getting a new card soon), but I don't think the problem has to do with that, since nothing's changed since it was running well. The only new thing I have installed is a ZoneAlarm firewall, and I don't think that would have anything to do with a problem in running ZSNES outside or netplay. Oh, and I did a fresh install of the latest version, and still have the problem.

Eh? Everything I've heard + my experience suggests that while the XP XP2 firewall is no longer worthless, ZoneAlarm is still better.Ichinisan wrote:Also, ZoneAlarm is useless intrusive bloatware. Install Windows XP Service Pack 2 and use it's enhanced firewall.

Well, try to uninstall ZoneAlarm and check if it fixes the issue.
If it does, you have your culprit.
If it does, you have your culprit.

I uninstalled it, not sure how it would be the culprit, but I will try. And yay, I haven't been "(BTW, I am dumb)"ed yet!
Edit: okay, what the hell kind of firewall is zonealarm, making it so zsnes, and as far as I can tell only zsnes, has trouble running, only in full screen?
Okay then, it works, that's insane though, what exactly did zonealarm do to my comp that would've caused that?

Visit that over-and-over until there are no more "critical updates".
Once you have installed all critical updates, make sure to check the site about once per week.
I perform 6-8 cable modem installations per day. ZoneAlarm is very intrusive. It does this so that novice users will think that it's more useful than it really is. ZA usually displays heuristics when I try to run ipconfig from the command line. It should at least be smart enough to leave harmless Windows components alone! Other than blocking services and allowing exceptions, what more do you need from a firewall? Anything more than the SP2 FW is just useless bloat.
Most of my customers don't have a password for ZA, but it can be hell if they set one and no one knows what it is!

I knew ZoneAlarm wasn't that good. I better tell my friends.Ichinisan wrote:www.windowsupdate.comMorteTheSkull wrote:...could you perhaps link me to where I can update to SP2?

And about the Windows Update, once you installed most (or all) of the critical updates, the SP2 update should be available right away.

You'll gain several useful features, and you will fix hundreds of bugs and vulnerabilities all at once.MorteTheSkull wrote:yeah, it is, but what exactly happens when I update to SP2? Will I lose anything?
Also, check out the non-critical updates, like Windows Media Player 10 and High-Mat support for burning MP3 CD's.

Egress filtering? I like blocking connections on a per-app basis.Ichinisan wrote:ZA usually displays heuristics when I try to run ipconfig from the command line. Per-app exceptions are allowed in the SP2 FW. Is that really what you meant?Noxious Ninja wrote:Egress filtering? Ugh. this sucks. I have a problem. It sounds stupid, but:
A while ago, I deleted the whole Internet Explorer folder, uninstalled it, and even went o my Application Data folder and deleted the Internet Explorer folder there, too. Now, it says I need Internet Explorer to do the update (I don't have SP2), so when I downloaded the installer, and tried installing the newest Internet Explorer, it says there's a newer version already installed on my computer and it cannot continue. What the heck is up with that?

ZA is just on learning mode....
It asks permissions for EVERYTHING , it's pretty much the best SOFTWARE firewall far as I've tried , I used to get 100+ a day tryin to get into my comp , which now I get 0 , but it doesn't hurt.
But now I ryn the best firewall of all , Linux Hardware firewall , and best of all it's FREE.

Internet Explorer is an important part of Windows. Even if you don't use it, don't fuck with it (no matter what anyone else says).
You might have to reinstall Windows or do a "repair" installation.
