zmv->avi

Post by michael flatley »

Well, fraps was almost working with ZSNES a long while back. It would capture a little over half of the requested 30fps. I didn't find this satisfactory. Now a new version of ZSNES is out and I thought I'd try it with fraps again. Neither version 2.3.3 or 2.5.0 of fraps work at all with ZSNES 1.4 now. Anyone else having this problem?

BTW, it's been several months so I thought I'd ask this question again. Will zmv->avi support be implemented in ZSNES. If so, when?

Umm , ZMV is like a save state with button pressed timings. There's NO video there.

Far as I can tell fraps works fine with ZSNES 1.40 , but Fraps videos are kinda bloated.

Same thing here as mf. Fraps 2.5.0 doesn't even seem to detect ZSNES 1.40.

Haven't tried earlier versions of ZSNES, but Fraps 2.5.0 seems to be quite a bit faster than old versions, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

That's the point. You have a ZMV which is only viewable in ZSNES. A zmv->avi tool would take the zmv and its corresponding output and turn it into something most everyone could see.

You sure fraps is working with 1.4? What version of fraps do you have? And your config settings? Thanks.

What you're wanting is somthing to load ZMV (zsnes (I left my brains in the womb)) and wanting it to output as (AVI)... Doubt it's gonna happen soon.

Fraps - 2.3.3 - 2.5.0

@flatley: I wonder why you posted this thread when you could have checked the sticky.

If there's anything new on the matter, that's where it'll be posted.

Dudes, this isn't a hard concept to understand. Sure, a ZMV is a file that sends keystrokes to the emulator. But the end result is basically a movie of an emulated scene. If we take the frames produced by the emulation of the ZMV we have a vid. Got it? This has all been talked about before, a proof of concept was presented by one of the devs, and another (IMHO inferior) emulator already has this feature. I'm just wondering why fraps no longer works with ZSNES and if the devs will release a zmv->avi feature. I'm trying to create a speedrun avi and with current utilities my vid either runs at 15fps or drops odd frames. I don't want either of these things...

Holy shit I just got fraps working and it doesn't skip a frame. OMFG sweet. For some reason all of these settings work together. They didn't before but now they do. It's all thanks to fraps now offering 60fps capture mode. Case closed for me...

ZSNES:
auto frame rate
max frameskip 0
vsync
tripple buffering

FRAPS:
60fps

Good. Does that mean you'll get on that Super Metroid movie ?

Records are 0:47 minutes for 100% and 0:27 for 24%. The author of the latter (Terimakasih) thinks less than 27 minutes for an any% is impossible.
Which is really easy to admit when you watch his run.

The 00:47 100% run is in a fat ~300MB divx file. I tried to find the original SMV, to no avail.
Grab it at this page.

The 00:27 24% run is available at Bisqwit's site, either 157MB avi file via BT, or small smv file via HTTP (requires snes9x 1.43WIP1).

Yes working on vid this instant. Run will most definitely beat 47 minutes. In fact I will probably smash that record.

My bad. I had the FPS counter disabled and I thought it still wasn't working.

I had forgotten tripple buffering needs to be enabled. Without it fraps won't work with ZSNES. I'm still running into slight problems because Adobe Premiere doesn't support a 60 fps timecode. I used to know the workaround to this but I've since forgotten.
