This is kind of a general emu question:
Should I set it to the highest setting (assuming my pc can handle it), set it to match my computer (48ghz), or set it to match the SNES sample rate?
I'm looking for the option with the most "high-def" sound
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Which Sampling Rate to use?

Re: Which Sampling Rate to use?
Well, 32000hz is what you'd probably want to use since that's what the SNES used. Not sure exactly the use for the others nowadays but pretty much any system should handle output at 32000hz.
You really can't make it sound any better since the game audio will only really suond as good as the samples used. So you can't make it any more "high-def".

Maybe these people were born without that part of their brain that lets you try different things to see if they work better. --Retsupurae

How about 48khz instead. ;)
I don't remember how much it used to affect in the old core, though, so maybe stick to 32k if you get weirdness at 48k.

Lol whoops
So as a general rule of thumb for emu's, just set it to the highest setting i'm not having issues at, or set it to match the system i'm emulating, or my speaker output?

Re: Which Sampling Rate to use?
It depends which sampling rate the parameter is tied to.
If it controls something in the emulation core itself, for faithful reproduction you want the original system's value (for the snes, 32kHz).
If it only adjusts the sound output of your computer, then for less issues you want your hardware's native rate.
In zsnes the settings affects the latter, but (and that's what I don't entirely remember) it could affect the sound core itself, hence my advice.

Re: Which Sampling Rate to use?
It does affect the core emulation, but even setting it to 32KHz will not make the sound emulation noticeably more faithful. If you seek accurate sound emulation, you should use at least Snes9x 1.53 or newer, or higan.grinvader wrote:It depends which sampling rate the parameter is tied to.

Re: Which Sampling Rate to use?
Sure, but I was talking about the general rule of thumb on what to choose.
